October 2016
Y/N's POV:
I've been working non-stop since my Latin Grammy wins, constantly either pumping out music to add to my own discography or for other Korean or foreign artists. Most days when I'm in the studio I can finish up to five tracks with vocal demos in a single session and when I'm not in the studio or working on my own comebacks, I have become an unofficial evaluator and instructor. Sometimes teaching classes of trainees and other times preparing other artists, mostly Twice, for their comebacks I composed. I think I was asked to teach the trainees because of how similar in age I am to them so I can relate to issues they may be going through easier than an adult who's just there for a paycheque.
Twice, Chan and I have made it a small tradition to celebrate any of our releases or big wins with dinner in my dorm and a little party on the terrace. So we've had a few parties now and the 'photo phridges' are looking less sad now. I even have a little polaroid photo of Becky and I from the Latin Grammy's stuck on one of the fridges too.
I released two mini albums after releasing 'Por Favor'. These were named 'Antifragile' and 'Rover'. Both of which I debuted an edgier sound, however 'Rover' also had a sensual vibe too. There was only a two month wait between releasing each album so that they could both ride off the popularity of the comeback prior to their releases. This strategy worked and I achieved triple crowns on the title tracks of both albums.
In my spare time I've been teaching Chan the basics of composing music and he's shown a lot of promise when it comes to the art of making music. I had informed JYP of this which led to a meeting with both Chan and I, where we were told Chan had until the beginning of March to pick out other trainees to potentially debut in a group with and then once he had picked them out I would play a part into training them into well rounded idols.
From what he's told me is that he has a pretty diverse group of five boys with him, however, he believes he's lacking members who would could blend the styles of the group together or give them an edge against other boy groups. Knowing Chan, he's going to wait until right towards the end of the timeframe to present the group to JYP and I.
I was snapped out of my reflective state when I heard a ping come from my phone. I checked the device to see a text from my manager telling me to look at the email they just forwarded me and once I had read the email that the decision was mine to make. I closed the composing software and opened my emails to see what my manager was on about. Seeing only one new email within my inbox, I assumed that was the one my manager was on about and clicked on it to reveal something I never would have expected.
"Dear Y/N and Representatives,
We hope this email finds you well and in good time.
We're writing out to you to express how grateful we would be if you were to consider being the Spanish entry for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine. The deadline for entry submissions is January 1st 2017 so that everything can be sorted ready for the contest in May.
We look forward to receiving your entry and wish you a good day.
Many thanks,
The Spanish delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest."
I send a text to my manager to inform her I will be putting in an entry as the contest is one close to my heart because I used to watch it every year with my grandmother back in Spain when I was a child. I also sent Chan a text to say to come to the studio so he could have another lesson in composing whilst I started composing my entry. The older teen arrived about five minutes later and we got started with the track.
"Is this song going on your next Spanish comeback?" Chan asked after hearing the reggaeton beat I had created on the computer.
"Ani, it's for something bigger that I can't tell you about yet, but it is going to be in Spanish. When I can tell you I will, but until then I have to keep it a secret. I just thought I should teach you the basics and hallmarks of this style of music at the same time." I explained whilst also not answering his question as it could very be my next Spanish comeback if I don't release any more by the time this is released.
It took us just over an hour to finish the backing track. Once we were sure that the lyrics were all that was left to do, we left for lunch before Chan had to go back to his own training. When he left, I returned to my studio and got on with writing lyrics that I thought would fit the style of this track. Once I had them recorded I sent the audio file with the context that this was going to be my entry for Eurovision to JYP with a treatment idea for the music video.
For the music video I wanted to shoot in downtown LA to fit the urban style the backing track had. JYP agreed that this was a good theme and approved the budget fund for the shoot. I also suggested that after the video was shot and my attendance at Eurovision was confirmed that I could take a team of trainees to be backing dancers so they could get some first hand experience on stage. JYP was reluctant to the idea first but eventually agreed with the only condition being I had to go around and assess which of the trainees to take myself.
~~~~~ 4 Months Later ~~~~~
We went to LA to shoot the music video back in November and were given an extra week to relax and explore LA. However, relaxing was the last thing I did as I had received a message from Becky asking if I wanted to feature in a song she was making called 'Mayores'. I went into the studio the next day to record with her and we were finished recording by the end of the day and the shoot was scheduled for a couple days later. Originally I was only going to be giving one verse and the outro, however, ended up also taking a chorus too.
Before the shoot I found out there was a driving scene so I spent the next few days learning to drive and getting my license, which I barely did. We then shot the majority my scenes for the video in a hotel bar and on top of a building roof. I was fine with these as I just had to vibe with the camera and Becky which wasn't too hard as we had become very close since the Latin Grammy's, to the point where she also knew my secret.
For the final scene the director wanted me to wait outside of the car, meet Becky and then drive off together in the car. Here's the catch though. The scene required me to kiss her when she approached me before we got into the car. This made me nervous because I didn't want a dating scandal that could affect my career or for Becky or I to get abuse from fans. The director wouldn't budge on the scene but did, however, shorten the shot down to just as our lips touched before changing the shot to us getting into the car. I then left LA the next day to come back to Korea so I could come up with the choreography for my song. This was so I could starting teaching the choreography to the trainees that I end up choosing to join me straight away.
(A/N: I know this one is only a short one, but for the flow of the story it made sense to me to stop this chapter here. So here's 1357 words for u :)
