"Come on Ivy" I cooed my 1 year and 8 month old daughter as I persuaded her to let me put on her cute little denim jacket. Life as a mother is challenging. Having a little person that depends on you for literally everything is draining. Yet, so rewarding at the same time.
"No mama" Ivy stomped her feet, pulling her bottom lip at the same time. I really don't know where I get the patience from.
Throughout the morning I've been rushing back and forth to and from the pub. Making sure everything was perfect.
Firstly, my so called boyfriend assisted me with the food. Then we had to make another journey back home for all of the decorations. It's safe to say that after all of the running around, the set up looked amazing. It was worth it for sure.
Aidan didn't think so. He was always such a spoil sport. Moody, controlling, rude. Most of the time, I don't know how I put up with it. Despite how he treats me, he's a good dad to Ivy. I just can't take that away from her.
"Ivy, we need to go. We're gonna find out if aunty ham ham is having a baby boy or girl!" I continue to persuade her, in which it finally succeeds. Not that she knows what I'm talking about. Anywho, it worked.
"Ham ham" is my best friend, Hannah. Ivy calls her this because she can't say her name properly yet, which I think is really cute. Hannah and I have been best friends for as long as I can remember. Ever since we were little girls. We do everything together. She's more like a sister than she is a friend.
This last week has been hectic. Running a cafe, planning a gender reveal party, as well as being a mum has been stressful to say the least. But I can't wait to see Hannah's face when she see's the set up.
I take one last look in the mirror to make sure that I look okay before swooshing Ivy off her feet to put her into the car seat.
"You didn't have to come, you know?" I look over to Jordan in the drivers seat, his eyes focused on the road in front of us, a frown appeared on his face."Shut up, Meena. You know I don't trust you around other guys". I roll my eyes at his stupidity.
I chose to keep my mouth shut. Arguing in front of our daughter is always something that I've avoided. She picks up on emotions well, I didn't want to upset her.

After 10 minutes of driving, we arrived at the venue early. Hannah knew about her gender reveal party but hadn't yet seen inside.
A few minutes go by and all of the guests began to turn up. There were a lot more people than I thought.
Aidan stayed silent whilst we waited for Hannah to arrive. The expression on his face showed me how happy to be here...not.
Shortly after, I hear the sound of a car door shut.
"You're glowing!" I squealed as I noticed Hannah exiting the car. She ran up to me, wrapping her arms around my neck. "Thank you Meena. You look gorgeous!" She complimented me, then turning to Ivy, who was tangled in arms. "Not forgetting you, little princess" she giggled, ticking her nose. She didn't acknowledge Aidan. She hates his guts and he didn't like her either.Hannah constantly tells me that I shouldn't be with him, that he's not good for me. She doesn't understand how hard it is to leave. However, she puts up with him for mine and Ivy's sake. She loves that little girl like her own.
"I-i'm so nervous" she stuttered, pulling her jacket closer to her body as the wind blew harshly. "Come on! You'll be fine, just wait until you see inside" I reassured her, grabbing her hand as we entered the pub.
-
"You guys did all of this? For me?" She continued to take in the view of all the decorations, covering her mouth with her hands in shock. "I'm guessing you like it then?" I giggled. "Of course I do! I love it. Thank you so much" she thanked me, her eyes turning glossy due to held back tears.
Unfortunately, Hannah isn't with the baby's dad. He left her when he found out she was pregnant. Not wanting anything to do with her or the baby. It's sad, but she has plenty of good people around her for support.
After a while of talking to everyone, we decided to go to the bar to order some drinks. Me and Hannah wait in line at the bar whilst I leave Ivy with Aidan. "Almost time for the big reveal" I tease, not wanting to wait a second longer to find out if it's going to be a boy or girl.
Although I had planned the gender reveal, I had no idea of the sex. I wanted to be just as surprised as everybody else was.
The bartender took our orders. As we were waiting, I feel Hannah nudge my arm. "That guy is totally checking you out" she whispered with a huge grin on her face. Trying not to make it look obvious, I scanned the room quickly to find multiple guys chatting amongst themselves."Which one?" I asked, confused. "Him in the corner to the left, blonde hair" she explains. Taking another glance to the corner, I catch eyes with him. I shouldn't admit it but, he was gorgeous. The bartender handed us our drinks. I take a sip for refreshment as I feel somebody approach us. "Hey. You two got a party here or something?". I hear a thick Irish accent as I turn to meet the blonde haired boy. He wore glasses which suited him really well. His hair styled into a quiff, light stubble on his chin and a dimple that poked out when he smiled.
"Yeah, it's my friends gender reveal" I smiled back at him, feeling my cheeks burn up. "Ah, congratulations, what're you having?" He turns to Hannah. "Well, that's the point of a gender reveal party. We don't know". I couldn't help but giggle at her comment, the blonde boy chuckles too. "Good point, I'm Niall by the way".
So that's his name?
"I'm Hannah and this is Ameena". Hannah speaks before I get the chance to open my mouth. "I'll see you around?" He questions, strolling back to his seat. "Sure" I reply with a small smile.
Thinking nothing more of it, we made our way into the people packed room where the party was held.
Music blasted through the speakers as I put the balloon in the middle of the dance floor, for everyone to gather around. Losing Hannah in the process, I search around to find her talking to her brother. "Time for you to pop the balloon" I excitedly approach them, pulling her into the middle of the dance floor.I ask Hannah's brother to turn the music off. There's no way everyone would hear me over it. "Can I get everyone's attention please?". Shouting at the top of my voice, the room falls silent. "It's time to find out the gender! Everyone gather round".
Everyone follows my instructions as I join Hannah in the middle of the crowd. The voices of everyone counting down from 10 fills the deadly silence.
