I wake up, sweating cold sweat. My breath is heavy as I rub away dried up tears on my chin. My body is shaking.
I try to sit up, failing.
I realize that I'm hyperventilating and I try to breath slowly, just making the tears flow down quicker.
Suddenly I feel my phone calling, desperate for someone to speak to during this terrifying breakdown, I reach out for my phone to answer. It's Ellinor Watson, or El, for short. My, probably, best friend since kindergarten.
"Hey Ruh! You would never guess what just happened-" But before she can finish her saying, she hears my sobs.
"Ruh? Are you alright? What happened?" El asks, in a very calming and sweet tone, you can hear her British accent deepen for it is in an emotional state. I open my mouth to say something, but just manages to get out single sobs.
"I'm coming over!" She states, hanging up after.
I clutch my phone to my chest, the hyperventilating continuing like as if it never stopped.I hear the front door opening and someone running up the stairs. Steps coming closer and closer. Suddenly, the bedroom door bursts open and El rushes in towards me.
"Ruh! Look at me it's okay!" I slowly turn my head to look at her, her soft and warm hands pulling me up and putting me on my bed.
Without saying anything else she hugs me tightly. I hug back, sobbing onto her shoulder.
"It's okay, I'm here now. Tell me what happened?" El whispers in a low and calming tone.
My hyperventilating gets replaced with heavy breathing as I form the words to explain.
The words comes out broken.
"I, I was in my room a-and someone came in.." Before I could get into more detail I went in some sort of mute mode.
Ellinor looks down at me with her ocean blue eyes, an understanding look washing over them.
"Suruh, you were having one of those sleep paralysis your doctor told you about. Have you been taking your medicine?" I think back to my doctor telling me that, everytime my anxiety worsens, so does my sleep.
I slightly nod, noticing my headache, I stop.
El brushes her hand on my shoulders and back to try and calm me. Seeing my tired look she gestares me to lean on her, and I do, without hesitation.
"Rest a little Ruh, I'll be here the entire time, you're safe here." Ellinor says softly, hugging her arm around me.
I close my eyes, it feels painful since I hadn't blinked in a while, but I quickly forgot the feeling.
El puts her head onto mine, her hot breath hitting the top of my forehead.
I take a deep breath before getting pulled back to sleep.I wake up maybe a couple of hours later, to instead of weird noises, I wake up to a sweet smell. El had brought in some sweets from the store near by.
As she looks back at me, her brown hair falling off her shoulder, I feel my body heat up.
"I thought you'd never wake up." El let's out a chuckle as she walks up to the bed with a biscuit in hand.
"It's blueberry, your favorite" I reach out a hand to take it as she puts it in front of me on a small porcelain plate.
The smell and textures feels calming and nostalgic.
El sits down next to me with a similar plate and a blueberry biscuit on her's.
I bite through the biscuit, the sweet and sour taste flowing through me mouth as I swallow.
I glance over at El to see of she enjoys the biscuits as much as me. Seemingly so because only half a biscuit was left on the plate.
"Sorry that you had to come here." I say in a quite silent voice only she could hear.
She puts down her biscuit and looks straight at me.
"Don't apologize, I love being with you! I wasn't really doing anything anyway." I smile, shuffling back my brown curls from my face.
Suddenly, I remember Ellinor trying to tell me something over the phone.
"What was it you were wanting to say to me over the phone?" I ask in a normal tone.
El's face quickly washes over with excitement as she straightens her back. She puts away her plate from her lap as she starts to speak.
"There is a small get together with our old class from highschool!" We had only been in college for about two years, and we both just turned twenty one.
"Isn't it a bit early to have a get together? And when is it even supposed to be? I'm sure everyone has got school work to do." El chuckles, putting a hand lightly in front of her hand as she speaks her reply.
"I suppose the just really miss us don't you think? It's supposed to be on October twenty ninth. Basically Saturday. You know you might meet you old crush?" First of all, it's friday today, we'd only have a day to get ready, secondly, I never said that I actually like Simon. She'd known that'd be impossible if I had just told her before.
"C'mon El, you know I never actually liked him." Can't she see that I like her and not some old highschool jock.
El starts laughing to break the tension that could be heard in my voice.
"I know, you don't make it much of a secret Ruh." Before I can process what she'd just said and over think if you can hear my thoughts she pulls me up to my feet and over to the closet.
Before I can process she thows a couple of clothes at me and tells me to try them on as she rummages around my clothes for something she can wear herself.
"Go try them on! Don't just stand there." El says quickly and pushes me towards the bathroom.
I nod and enter the bathroom to change.
