One Daunting Night

"Aria!" Mom called out to me from the kitchen. I was in the livingroom with my dad, two brothers, and my sister. We were all taking turns with dad giving us fighting lessons. He had been teaching us lessons on how to defend ourselves since we were about ten years old, give or take. He believed we all needed to know how to defend ourselves if we were ever in a situation that called for it. Dad and I were really going at it.

"Aria!" Mom called for me again. I was too into the grove I was in at blocking my dad's punches and kicks. By now I had learned to always be alert and concentrate on what his next move may be. It wasn't long until mom came walking into the livingroom to get my attention.

"Aria!" mom said once more and I lost my concentration. Dad took me down the moment I turned my attention to mom who was looking at me with a serious look.

"You broke your concentration.... Never do that because you will be vulnerable like you are now." Dad said as if he didn't even notice mom was in the room.

"I know dad, but mom needs me." I said in my defense. Dad looked at me with one brow cocked.

"I didn't hear your mom cal...." Dad started as he turned his head toward where mom was standing with her arms crossed. He smiled at her and stood back up off the floor where I still layed. "Oh hey honey... we were just having a little lesson before dinner." Dad said. Mom gave him a slight smile and giggled as she shook her head.

"Well I have called Aria's name three times already. I needed her to help me set the table, but you two were to busy trying to take each other's heads off." Mom stated. Dad walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her waist, and mom returned the gesture by wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I'm sorry honey, you know I get into the zone when it comes to teaching them their lessons." Dad said now trying to suck up to mom. All she could do was smile at him.

"Well you can continue your lessons with the kids another time. It's almost time for dinner and it's Aria's turn to help set the table tonight." Mom stated.

"Okay, you're right." Dad said. Mom smiled and landed a small peck of a kiss on his lips and started to walk away. Dad pulled her back into his arms which made mom let out a blushed giggle. "I want a better kiss than that." Dad said. He dipped her backwards into his arms and kissed her so gentle and passionately. Mom and dad are like the perfect image of the perfect kind of love. A love that I can only wish to find one day. They were perfect for each other. I believe they were destined to be together or maybe it was fate, but seeing them that in love made me believe in something. It made me believe that there is someone out there like that for me... I just have to find him.

"Seriously guys? Get a room!" one of my brothers said in disgust. Mom and dad departed from their moment and laughed once they realized we were still standing in the same room with them.

"Oh come on Dillon, it's not like it isn't something you don't do with your girlfriend." Our sister Amy said. She was a sassy one when it came to our brothers and she was only fourteen.

"Shut up Amy, you don't know what you're talking about." Dillon retorted.

"Alright kids, break it up..... " Dad said. "Go get ready for dinner." He finished. While they went to wash up for dinner, I headed into the dining room to set the table like mom had asked. I had just finished setting the last few places and mom brought in the food and set it all on the table. We were having my favorite tonight. T-Bone steaks with mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, and rolls....and for dessert, homemade cheese cake. The aroma from all the food made my stomach growl.

"Thank you for helping me sweetheart." Mom said as she walked by me setting the last dish of food on the table and kissed my cheek.

"No problem mom." I answered with a smile.
