Biana POV:
I shouldn't be here.
I knew that Tam and Linh had trouble with their parents in the past, and when I was visiting the hospital to see Tam I never saw their parents.
"Um, is everything okay?" I asked. Tam drew out a big breath, and I could tell that Linh was struggling with how to deal with the situation. Tam finally stood up, causing the bed to creak in protest.
"Well, we shouldn't keep them waiting, should we." Tam grunted.
Linh replied with a wary nod but didn't follow him as he headed down the hall, past Linh. Linh leaned against the door frame, looking at the floor in front of me.
"We don't really talk to our parents anymore," Linh whispered, "They didn't treat us very well."
I opened my mouth to speak but I couldn't find the right words to say.
"I-it's okay, you don't have to say anything, I just thought you deserved to know. E-especially because, you know, they're here right now." Linh stuttered.
I had never seen Linh this nervous, so I could tell that her talking about her parents was not a topic to bring up very often. Even though I just met Tam, I felt closer to him but me and Linh still had a few nice conversations.
"I understand if you want me to leave." I said, meaning every word. I wanted Linh to feel comfortable around me, especially because we would be seeing each other more often now that we were going to sign language classes together.
Linh hesitated on my proposal, but she quickly said, "You can stay, but please stay out of my parents sight. Just stay in this room for now. We'll try to make sure they leave fast so you don't have to spend too much time in here. Thank you though Biana. For standing next to my brother. I really appreciate it." Linh offered a small smile.
I wanted to return her gratitude but Tam's face appeared in the doorway, "Linh you coming?"
Linh casted a sideways glance my way but said a quick 'yup' and followed Tam into the dark hallway, closing the door behind her.
Tam POV:
What were my parents doing here?
Especially at a time like this?
I first thought that they were probably here to ask about my hearing, (Not that they would care) but it seemed unlikely now that I think about it. They could have visited me in the hospital but while Linh was basically living there, she said she never saw them.
After getting Linh from my room, we headed to the front door, where our parents were not-so patiently waiting. I looked over at Linh who seemed unsure of the whole scenario, but she met my eyes and gave me a reassuring nod. I opened the door with a shaky hand, and let my parents in.
"Why are you two here?" I asked once the two of them had situated themselves on a small love seat.
My father scoffed, "It's nice to see you too son."
I tried to fight back the scowl that was forming on my face but there was no use, "You don't get to call me your 'son' after you left us on the street." I spat.
My fathers silver eyes burned into mine. He had a lot to say to me, and I could tell, but I wanted to know why he even came here in the first place. "Well? Why are you here?"
Linh shrank into a shadowy corner in our living room, trying to become invisible. My mother had a forced smile
"Your father and I, we've been thinking..." My mother said, obviously trying to lighten whatever blow they were going unleash.
"Would you like to come home?"
