Biana POV:

I got home that night with tears flowing out of my eyes

My brother was being decent for once and told my parents that I needed some space and left me to it. I sobbed in my room for a while until I heard a small knock 2 hours later. I wiped my tears and tried to look as presentable as possible.

"Who is it?" I asked, opening my door. And to my surprise, Linh was standing with a small pamphlet in her hand, her eyelids pink from crying.

I saw a figure behind her.

"Tam?"

"Hey Biana" Tam said shyly, coming out from behind his sister.

I smiled widely, and ran over, closing the distant. My arms wrapping around him. He seemed surprised at first but smiled and hugged me back.

" Can you hear okay? Can you even hear me right now?" I asked self consciously.

"About that," said Linh, "I was think of going to check out this ASL place to learn how to 'speak' with Tam without causing to much stress, want to come with?"

I thought about it for a second, but the answer was already clear in my mind.

"Of course." I said.

----------------In the ASL teaching room--------------

"I understand the recent turn of event's with your brother, and I acknowledge that you want to learn ASL fast but this will take time. are their any words you would like to learn how to sign first?" The teacher asked, speaking more toward Linh than to me.

"Maybe simple hand motions like hello, his and my name, just some beginner stuff in general," Linh said, thinking.

The teacher nodded, "Yes, that will probably be the first stuff we cover, unless you would like to be taught anything in particular," the teacher looked over at me.

"Oh, um..." I had to pause and think for a second. Their must be some word I want to learn. then it hit me. I gathered my courage and blurted the words out before I could look back,

"How do you sign the word 'Love'?"

The teacher honestly looked astonished book quickly nodded and he showed us. You cross your arms across your chest so it makes an X shape which means Love. He also explained that if you want to sign 'I Love You' then you clench your fist, stick out your index, thumb, and pinkie finger out. I quickly thanked him and we continued the lesson.

The rest of the lesson went by quickly with the occasional look from Linh. Thankfully, Tam wasn't there because he was going to learn someplace else so he didn't have to witness my super embarrassing moment.

I had something to say to Tam.

And this time, even my brother can't hold me back.

Tam POV:

The world was a confused blur.

Before you think anything, I mean figuratively not literally. When people talk it feels weird. My ears can't interpret words the same way I could before. I was scared at first. When they told me I wouldn't be able to hear like I used to, and that I would need hearing aids, I was worried about how much it would cost. I searched it up later. They cost a lot.

My stomach curled at the idea of spending that much money just so I can hear when I could learn ASL and not have to worry. Not that learning ASL didn't cost any money.

I lay on my bed searching up some easy words that I could sign when I heard a knock on the door.

"I'LL GET IT!!!" yelled Linh.

I could hear the soft pats of her footsteps as she crossed the hall to the doorway. The door opened and a soft murmuring sound echoed through the walls. Even though my door was closed (and locked) I could tell who was at the door. My cheeks flushed.

Biana.
