"Pass the bottle!"
My eyes go up to Patrick as we shove our way through the crowds of this packed house party, I'd rather be anywhere but here right now. I have a massive exam tomorrow that I need to study for last minute but somehow he's managed to drag me along to be his sober drinking buddy until I'm ditched so he can hookup with someone.
He takes the first bottle of vodka handed to him, wrapping his lips around the opening without a care about who else could've been drinking from it. It grosses me out thinking about how many germs reside on that bottle, probably more than a toilet seat and he would never willingly lick one of those.
It's pretty clear how polar opposite we are, we've definitely drifted with age because of our now different interests. Coming to university, sharing a dorm and being around each other has definitely not done our friendship any good.
As kids we were obsessed with video games, making mud pies and going to football matches with our dads but now I'm studying law and he's just come here to party. His parents are so clueless to their son's true lifestyle, he's their golden child who could do no wrong.
He is flushing any potential he ever had down the toilet with the vomit he'll be throwing up tomorrow morning.
I'm knocked around by drunk party guests, Patrick pulling the bottle away from his lips to cheer as we approach a group of his friends that I hang out with through association. In all honesty I'd go home right now and not bat an eyelid, I don't think uni life is for me and I have larger plans for my life.
"You made it!" One of them, Connor, slaps Patrick on the back while shouting over the music to actually be heard.
"I had to drag Niall away from his books!"
I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose before pushing my fingers through my messy hair, rolling my eyes at Patrick who had been doing shots in our dorm before we left so his cheeks are a little reddened.
"I have a massive exam tomorrow, sorry that I don't really want to be here especially considering I don't drink." I speak to Patrick who happily ignores me and throws his arm over my shoulder to bring me closer to him.
"Live a little Niall! Parties are so fun, you can hookup with literally any chick in here!"
I pull myself away a little too aggressively, "no Patrick, not happening."
I await his comment about me being a virgin and how I need to have sex to become part of some cool club that only exists when you sleep with someone for the first time but I'm pretty happy keeping myself out of that club. I want my first time to be with someone I love, a meaningful experience I won't regret in the future. I doubt Patrick can even remember his first time but he simply doesn't care to, I could easily be like him I just don't see the appeal.
