Disconnect

The week went on, simply as they were used to. Constant complaints and arguing from their father, their mother's health deteriorating as they all awaited the news on what could possibly be wrong with her, and wasting away their life into Roblox, and Tumblr after school. The weekend came, and their father's usual bickering about Sindy and Derik coming over with more of their stuff from their move arised. That's all Sami listened to all weekend, arguing, screaming, and fighting. They were tired.

Sami woke up in the dark. They'd allowed themselves to fall asleep playing Adopt Me, and their game had disconnected. It had gotten late during their rest. They removed their headphones and looked around the room, in which they couldn't see around. Well, fuck. I'd let it get to the point I can't even see to get my light switch turned on..

They grabbed their keychain flashlight off their bag and pressed down on the circle to turn it on. They progressed to their door to turn on their light but tripped over a shoe box, as they had never cared to clean up their room. They dropped the light, and thankfully landed on their clothes they'd tossed around the floor. Wow, who knew being messy would both screw over and save me!

They pushed themself up into a sitting position, but felt something that almost seemed like it was attempting to shove them back over. They looked back but couldn't see. They scrambled for their light, turning it on. There was nothing. They got back up and turned on their light switch, finding nothing in the room. Strange, but..I'm tired, maybe I imagined it.

They don't remember the night after that, all they did was they woke up on their floor, right where they'd fallen before. Their mind was fuzzy, so they assumed they had just ended up passing out there. It was morning, another great day to listen to arguing..damn, it was the weekend. Couldn't they get a break? They got up and went downstairs, grabbing some toast and returning to their room quickly before their parents woke. A few hours of Roblox later, and they heard the yelling start downstairs. Just great. I can't deal with this.

Nevertheless, they just sat there. At some point, they'd stopped playing their game and just stared at the screen. They didn't realize until the screen showed the disconnect error. 20 minutes? It felt like a few seconds.. They gave themself a slap on the cheek and reconnected, to come to another disconnect. They checked the time, and it had actually passed another 20 minutes. They were confused, and sat down their tablet, and decided to get up and go to their brother's room. He, of course, wasn't there. Oh great, he's taking a shit.

They peeked downstairs, finding the arguing had calmed down and turned to only a few words as their mother walked out of the living room to her bedroom. Sami shook their head, they felt like absolute trash.

The sat back down in their room, finding themself to fall back into slumber. Upon wake, it was dark again. It had been morning when I fell asleep here..and I'm still tired. They shrugged it off and grabbed their keychain light, this time it didn't work. This is new..the battery shouldn't be dead. They whacked it, and all it did was flicker, revealing something Sami couldn't make out in the darkness, yet it was enough to make them jump and drop their light again. Something caught it, and it floated there with darkness clasping onto it. Sami blinked multiple times, staring. In a moment's time, the light in the room was on, and nothing was there. They stood there, dumbfounded, as everything had been returned to normal and it was morning again.

It had appeared as they had only woken up about an hour later and stood there for a few minutes, no major time change, no floating flashlight. They blinked, and rubbed their eyes. They stared at their light switch, weary of it for some reason. They had this sudden feeling of untrust, staring at it. They looked at the floor and closed their eyes, breathing in and out. When they opened their eyes, they were calmer. They went back to their tablet, which was disconnected from the game, and reconnected.
