Xavier walked by his wife's side as they entered the doctor's bright, sterile office the following afternoon.

He took a seat in a waiting room chair while she gave her name to the receptionist and signed a form before joining him.

Xavier smiled as Wednesday frowned.

"It'll be over quick." He reassured her with a nod, ".......And I'll be beside you the whole time."

Wednesday stayed silent as she looked away.

A moment later, the door that led to the exam rooms swung open as a shrill-voiced medical assistant called out, "Mrs. Addams-Thorpe?!"

"I'm right here." Wednesday huffed as she stood to her feet.

She glared at Xavier who rushed to stand next to her, ready to swoop in and catch her in his arms if a sudden bout of dizziness knocked her off balance.

Wednesday put a hand on the lower curve of her rounded belly as they both walked over to meet the smiling nurse.

"I see we've brought Daddy with us again today!" The nurse chirped in a voice that seemed more grating than genuine.

"My husband insists on being present for all my appointments." Wednesday bluntly informed her.

Xavier frowned before she added, ".......And I prefer it that way."

"Of course!" The nurse smiled as she led the couple through the door and down the hall to a prepared room, "Let me just grab your information, Mrs. Addams-Thorpe, and I'll send the doctor in right away!"

Xavier helped Wednesday onto the examination table while the nurse assaulted her with questions, took her blood pressure, and collected a blood sample.

She hurriedly recorded her findings in the computer next to the counter before she rattled off a hurried goodbye to the couple and left the room, eager to stay on schedule.

Wednesday frowned as she stared up at the ugly, fluorescent lights that beamed from the ceiling.

"Hey." Xavier whispered.

Wednesday's frown remained as she looked over.

"I'm here with you, alright?" He smiled, "Just a little while longer and we'll be back home."

Wednesday said nothing in response, although Xavier clearly saw her dismayed frown relax ever so slightly.

He boldly moved the chair next to the exam bed forward and slipped his hand into hers, worried she'd pull away from him.

His heart skipped a beat as Wednesday accepted his discrete display of affection and gripped his hand in return.

The couple's private moment ended with a quick knock on the door before it opened as the doctor stepped inside the room.

"Hello, Mom and Dad!" The doctor, a woman in her early fifties, greeted them with a smile that Wednesday thought seemed far too wide to be genuine.

"Hello." Xavier smiled politely.

Wednesday chose to flash her silent scowl instead of responding to her physician's sickening fakeness.

"How's everything been going?" The doctor asked as she sat down on a stool in front of the computer and reviewed the notes entered by the medical assistant.

Xavier looked at his wife and waited for her to speak as his eyes softened.

Each doctor's appointment meant the birth drew closer, which Xavier found very exciting.
