Sweet Boy
***

School was always easy for me.

even though i messed around and was labeled the class clown i still kept my grades up. my parents really wanted me to become a dentist like my father, but it never interested me. i was a theatre kid, and i was good at it. i'm good at making people laugh and i'm good at keeping their attention, so it just seemed right to go into entertainment.

which made college very easy, for the next month i had it pretty easy being the new student. i had a few core classes but they were easy, and i though sociology would be a good thing to learn so i started that as well. i spent my lunches being pulled along by one of the losers, i got to know them pretty well. i'm an observer, and they were easy to read. Bill was very obviously the leader of all their shenanigans, and Mike the copilot. Bev and Ben were always together, and Stan and I were both always observing the rest. he was almost like a protective mother though, making sure everyone was okay and enforcing rules like "Bill, don't touch the fire alarm." "No Bev, if you mix vinegar and Comet you'll create a toxic gas..."

Eddie, however, was all over the place. he would be stopped by students in the hall complimenting him on his cheer performance or asking him for help with their homework just as an excuse to talk to him. but he never left the losers, he was always around talking to Bev about her latest design or helping Ben and Bill with the school paper.

after my last, incident.. my dad has really been up my ass. "stay out of trouble." "report things instead of taking it into your own hands" blah blah. as if i hadn't heard it a million times already. but that guy was a real douche, and nobody was looking for him or even noticed he was gone. assholes like him deserve to—

"Richard!"

i look up from my walk through the hall and Bev is jogging up to me, "got a cig?"

we continue the walk outside, smoking our cigs and chatting about the day. suddenly we're stopped by a mullet wearing prick. he stands in front of Bev and plucks the cigarette from her lips.

"so you'll cheat on Ben with this twig but not with me?"

i furrow my brows and notice Bevs face turn cold.

"Henry, i'd rather bash my head in with a brick than ever touch you."

Henry flicks the cig away and turns his attention to me, "and who are you?"

"someone you don't want to fuck with." i take a hit off my cigarette as he straightens out trying to intimidate me.

"oh, wait. i know you." he chuckles and crosses his arm, "your the guy fucking that faggot Kaspbrak. tell me, do you take it up the ass or does he?"

i step towards him and Bev immediately steps between us, "i'm sure you know all about taking it in the ass. now fuck off."

He scoffs and flicks her forehead before walking past us. i watch him walk away and turn to Bev who sighs and continues walking as if nothing happened.

"who was that jack off?"

"Henry," she rolls her eyes, "he use to torment us all throughout middle and high school. it's like he followed us here just to keep fucking with us. the funniest part is he's studying law to become a bootlicking cop like his dad."

"well, seems kinda fitting." i comment as i pass my half burnt cig to her

"i gotta get to cheer practice, the guys are all coming, you should too." she notices my wary expression, "Eddie of course will be there too."

i grin and punch her shoulder, "hey i like hangin with the rest of you losers too."

"i know, but Eddie the most." she states matter of factly, "i just gotta put on my uniform in my dorm, my roommate should be gone so you can tag along."
