I made my way to the lift with ease but I wasn't the only one waiting. Surprisingly, Jason was there with his arms crossed and a bored look on his face. The clear boredom that seemed to contort into a sort of distaste at the sight of me.
"Don't tell me you're going to the cave too," he shot, venom in his words.
"So what if I am?" I wondered, "What's it to you anyway?"
"Just stay out of my way," Jason spat, "I want nothing to do with you no matter what my brother says."
"He hasn't said anything," I countered, crossing my arms with an angry huff, "Dick and I aren't exactly on the same page right now either."
"Welcome to my world," he scoffed, sarcasm dripping in his tone.
"You got something you want to say, then say it," I told him, "You obviously have some words you would like to share. And I hate that you're lying to me right now."
"What I've got to say doesn't matter," Jason argued, "Bruce's word is final."
"Like father like son," I muttered under my breath as the lift doors opened.
Jason and I both stepped on and went to opposite ends, watching the doors slide close. I watched him through my peripherals, noticing him doing the same. I managed a small smirk and held back the laugh that bubbled up inside me.
"I was wrong, Red, okay. Is that what you want to hear?
" I asked, uncrossing my arms as they fell to my sides, "How have you been anyway? Bat hasn't been too hard on you has he?""Same old shit as always," Jason sighed, giving me a small smile and he looked at me, "I'm surprised you're still kicking after the ass beating you took from me last time."
"Last I checked, I had to save you from being taken out by my guys," I recalled, "Can't have you dying again."
"We can't keep pretending we hate each other, Nova," Jason sighed after a few moments of silence, "we helped each other a lot."
"You know I was helping keep my gang going," I countered just as the lift softly slowed, "I needed to do what was right."
"You could've been on our side long ass ago," he told me, "I can't believe you started now."
"At least I'm trying," I huffed, going silent as the lift doors opened.
"It's good to see you again though," Jason murmured before walking off the lift.
"Wait, Jay," I called out, following him off and grabbing for his wrist, "are you going to train? We could make up for list time."
"You sure?" He wondered, looking around to make sure no one was watching, "Do you think that'll be okay?"
"Anyone would look and see it's a sparring match. Not much more than that," I assured, "Not two old friends having fun."
"Fine. Follow me," Jason answered, giving me a small smile.
I let him go and he led me in a direction I had yet to go in the cave. It led to a large area that had a circular, mat-covered floor surrounded by a small white border. A small monitor sat nearby and Jason immediately went for it, me trailing behind him.
"Y'know," Jason started, beginning to type a series of letters and numbers into a small holographic-like pad before he sighed, "I still can't believe that you left a goodish life fighting crime with me to go back to the full-time crime that your dad left behind." he sighed.
"I did what I had to do. I explained this when you approached me the first time," I argued with a huff, crossing my arms, and you know I regretted leaving. It was fun with you."
"Well, you're back to the okay side now," Jason finished, looking up at me, dropping his hands to his side, "Let's keep it that way this time. No running off to your gang."
"It's not my gang anymore anyway," I informed him, "Joker took it back over."
"I heard," Jason responded, "I want that son of a bitch back in a grave where he belongs."
"How do you think I feel?" I questioned rhetorically, "and he's my father."
He brushed past me towards the training circle, it lit up as he entered. I stepped into the circle after a moment and Jason got into a defensive position just as an automated, feminine voice spoke up.
"Todd, Jason B-13 and guest."
I was a bit startled by the voice but I became distracted by a holographic wall that rose up around the circle of mats Jason and I were on. I was taken aback by the advanced technology and maybe a little overwhelmed. When I focused back on Jason his eyes were locked on me.
"Come on, I'll even take it easy on you," he urged, raising his brow in impatience, "We wanna be able to take the clown down, right?"
I got into my own defensive position and watched Jason as he watched me. We were waiting for who would attack first; waiting for an opening or opportunity of any sort. I was never strong in hand-to-hand like the bat family seeing as sharp weapons were more my forte but it never hurt to bring up skill.
"Why don't you strike first, Jay," I taunted, "you can't be so afraid to hit a girl, can you?"
"Was never a problem," he chimed, charging at me with a speed I was familiar with.
I ran to meet him, feeling his hands on my shoulders as he tried to overpower me. His weight bore down on me but, I stood my ground and pushed back. My teeth were clenched until I took the opportunity to drop below him, being sure to land on my hip. My drop threw him off balance and I learned back, pushing my feet up into his naval to throw him over me. He landed on his back with a loud 'oomoh' and I rolled on my good side to get back into defense, feeling my wound twinge and ache dully at my movement.
"That can't be all you've got," I taunted once more, putting on a fake pout, "Has the Red Hood possibly lost his touch?"
