I should've been more prepared. I was in the heart of Gotham City. I was meant to be showing my face, having a good time with Dick as a part of the bait plan. Dick was supposed to be in Blüdhaven but it was deemed too "risky" to let me go out with Jason; Dick volunteered upon hearing the situation from Bruce.

I still with I had Jason. I knew him better and had more experience working with him. But I suppose Dick was a decent substitute. He knew how keep my mind off the whole plan. We went to a nice comic book shop but we got separated at one point and he almost tipped a display shelf. Luckily he caught it in time and I found him soon after.

Now we're walking down the street hand-in-hand as Dick suggested to not get separated again. Dick was still nervous and even seemed a little off put. Sure, I was a bit hesitant through the whole thing but did my best not to show it. And Dick's mood seemed to have changed from earlier.

"What's wrong?" he spoke, possibly a little too quick with too wide eyes.

"Nothing," I lied with a shrug, taking the opportunity to pull my hand from his and hold them around myself, "I just thinking about the comic book shop fiasco"

A guilty flash passed over his face which made me hesitate. He pulled to the side of the walkway so we wouldn't impede any oncoming individuals and looked to struggle for words.

"I'm sorry if I overreacted a bit," he sighed not meeting my eyes, "I'm not excited for this whole Joker Bait plan."

"You think I feel much better?" I countered with a nervous smile, "But there's something else. What's really bothering you, Dick? You were only so happy to be by my side a few hours ago. And let me tell you, that comic book shop stop wasn't the issue here."

"I've been having some issues," Dick spoke carefully after a brief pause.

I couldn't stop the sly smile that appeared. I looked around us, noticing we had conveniently stopped in front of a cafe. The cliche made me cringe but I was grateful nonetheless. I reached for his hands and pulled him toward the door. A cute, cheerful jingle greeted us and it softened my heart just a tad.

"Welcome in! Sit wherever you would like!" a jolly brunette greeted.

Taking his advice, I pulled Dick to an empty booth and made sure he sat across from me. Trying to appear unconcerned with Dick's surprise at my sudden action, I gazed at him teasingly.

"Not getting enough attention from your girlfriend?"

"Babs and I are not a thing. Not anymore," he sighed, "as we haven't been for a while. Why do you keep insinuating it?"

"Really? But you two still seem close," I spoke, dropping my gaze to look at the table, "I guess it's more like family between you two now."

Dick sighed, I rested his head in his hands. I worried my lower lip through my teeth but whatever thought processes were stirring were interrupted by the same brunette that greeted us.

"What can I get you two started with?" his too cheery voice asked.

"I'll have a caramel mocha and..." I trailed off to let Dick speak.

"I'll just have a hot coffee." he finished, not even glancing at the menu.

"I'll have that out as soon as possible." Our waiter nodded before leaving with quick grace.

I smiled as he left, soon turning my attention back to Dick. He was watching me with a calculating expression and I couldn't help myself. I reached my foot for his leg from under the table, resting my cheek in my palm.

"So how come you wanted to run when you let me cuddle you that one time?"

I watched Dick look at me with partial surprise and partial guilt before replying, "I just.. I can't trust myself with you. You're captivating and remind me of your mother in ways that probably aren't healthy."

I tried and failed to hold back my laugh. Dick's face turned a soft pink and he looked out the window we were stationed by. I reached for his hand and pulled his attention back.

"That's pathetic. But also kinda cute. I guess Boy Wonder is still full of surprises," I told him with a kind smile.

"What about you and Jay?" Dick diverted, "You two seem pretty close."

"HA! As if," I told him, "Jason is cute and all but whatever heart-stopping feels I had for him just aren't there anymore."

"Oh, so you did have feelings for him?" Dick noted with mock surprise, "Such a shame he has to compete for your heart once more."

"So he's still caught up with that," I sighed, "We kissed once! But it was because he saved me and I wasn't letting him leave without a thank you."

"So that's what he was so frustrated by," Dick seemed to piece together.

"Poor guy," I breathed, "I wish it were easy. But considering all that's been going on, I don't have time for stuff like that."

"Really? I figured being in the Manor enough would open up your options a bit," Dick joked.

"I'm focusing on getting up on my feet and supposed to be changing my ways in the process."

"Sure, you can do that but I can also play matchmaker with all my siblings when they get here. It's quite the full house when everyone's home," Dick offered.

"I forgot you had a bunch of other weirdos in suits," I admitted, "And I would leave it to you to do that and conveniently forget that maybe your family would rather not have another wack job intruding in your space."

"Come nightfall, you won't see that." he retorted with a smirk, leaning back in his booth.

I opened my mouth to speak but the brunette waiter served our caffeine with a smile. With a thank you from us two, he left us, but not without a not-so-subtle point towards a booth on the other side of the cafe. Dick and I glanced at each other before glancing at the booth.
