My breath caught and time seemed to stop. I couldn't stop staring at the smile that seemed to penetrate my very soul. The patron stood up and walked over with a mocking kind of gait. He hands were in the pockets of his purple pinstripe pants. He stopped right in front of our booth and I looked up at him with as much courage I didn't feel. I forced myself to breathe in and out at a steady pace.

"Hello, sweetheart," he greeted, his vibrant green hair making his smile all that more menacing, "it's nice to see you enjoying your date."

"Jok- I mean, father. Nice to see you," I spoke solemnly, "Guess you're not too happy I'm alive."

"Right you are, my dear. Those streets should've eaten you. Your healing isn't that developed, I made sure of that." Joker replied, his smile twitching.

"I doubt I'm getting out of this one," Dick sighed, earning a kick from me under the table.

"No, you're not, unfortunately. You, Mr Grayson, are gonna have a few laughs with my daughter and I."

"I'm hardly your kid, you freak." I managed, despite my entire being wanting to tear itself apart.

"How about we get out of here and no one else will get hurt?" Joker grimaced.

"Else?" Dick wondered.

With a snap, two Jokerz gang members I didn't recognize came out of the kitchen with a body slumped in their arms. Blood trailed where they dragged the young brunette that served us. I forced myself to look away. This is one of the things I hated about being involved with Joker. It was so easy for them to kill. I could feel my nails digging into my skin, I probably drew blood based off the wet feeling in my palms. Dick made a move to stand but I was quick to grab his wrist and prevent that. I could feel my nails digging into him, even if I didn't mean it.

"Wise choice, Darling. Keep your boy in line, and I'll keep my boys the same. Now come with us," He demanded.

I didn't dare refuse. I knew what the Joker was capable of. I looked at Dick and slowly, shakily stood while making sure to loosen my grip on him. His look was one of fierce determination and I didn't miss the quick slip of hand to push his phone deeper into his pocket. I only hoped he tried to contact Bruce and the gang.

"I was hoping he would make an appearance, but not in broad daylight like this," Dick murmured keeping his voice low enough so only I would hear.

I could only nod as Dick stood to join me and Joker, with his malicious grin, led the way to the back of the cafe. The gang members flanked us and I realized why I didn't recognize them. They were new men among the ranks and if they rose to be flanking Joker like this, that means K'andre and Fredrick were no longer alive. I kept my gaze on the ground, hoping that their families were at least okay.

Dick tightened his hold on my hand, pulling me from my thoughts. I didn't even notice he was keeping me close to him. I met Dick's eyes and he gave me a reassuring nod. I let out a shaky breath, trying my hardest to regain my composure. I was always uneasy with Joker. He was unpredictable and could kill without a second thought.

But it's fear that gripped me. This fear that made me feel like I was drowning and will never be okay. This fear that made my insides scream and my heart beat. If it weren't for Dick keeping me grounded, I would've lost my lingering sanity.

"Where are you taking us?" Dick asked.

"Somewhere I can deal with you both properly," Joker replied without missing a beat, "and a place I hope you learn how to stay dead."

"Why are you so intent on killing me?" I pressed, "I haven't done anything to you."

"Oh, Nova, that's where I have to disagree," he chided, waving his finger, "You've been working with Bats Boys for quite a bit and it's getting out of hand. I had to do something. Besides, Blockbuster is a much better business partner."

"You're not going to win this one, Joker," Dick urged, "You've barely been able to establish yourself on the streets."

"Wrong again, Wayne Brat. Blockbuster is more powerful than you realize," Joker crowed.

"You only wanted the Pitt from Ras Al Gul," I accused, "What do you want from Blockbuster?"

"What could I not gain?" Joker reeled.

"The mechanized weapons deals he has...". I realized, "I remember you discussing them before you disappeared last time. That's what you're after."

"That and so much more."

"You're treading dangerous ground. Do you know what he could possibly do? He's had a lot of blood on his hands while you send everyone else to do your dirty work. What could you possibly accomplish?" I demanded, becoming hysterical, "Do you know what those weapons could do to us? The people of Gotham and even Blüdhaven?"

"You're asking for chaos," Dick noted.

"Who doesn't want it? It's what's fun. I remember when we used to have fun, Nova. Granted, you probably don't remember but the blood we spilled was glorious."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I seethed, clenching the hand not holding Dick's into a tight fist.

I felt a piercing headache overcome me, and I let out a shout, gripping my temple as I collapsed against Dick. My vision went fuzzy as pictures flew to the surface.
