Gwendolyn's POVWhen I opened my eyes again, I was lying on the road, still a bit dizzy. Something was not right. Everything seemed different, out of the ordinary... Like in these 2 seconds everything had changed around me.
It wasn't raining anymore, and the sky was darker than how it was minutes ago. Like it was night suddenly. The roses that were next to the door of the house near me had disappeared. The fence around the house was painted gold. I was sure that yesterday it was black. A weird car passed next to me. It had unusually big wheels and curtains on the windows. I looked around the street. The puddles from the rain were gone!
I had a feeling I knew what had happened, but I shook this thought off. So I took a deep breath and looked around me carefully. The place was really different. The shop were aunt Maddie was buying the lemon candies was gone, and in its place there was a weird house, like the ones they show in these old movies. Also, there were less houses.
A man with a big hat and a long coat that reached his knees passed next to me, and stop to stare at me with a disgusted expression. He didn't try talking to me, or even helping me stand up!
This bad feeling was becoming a terrifying reality...
Who was I kidding?
The roses couldn't just have disappeared, or the rain could stop all of a sudden. And if Nicole Kidman didn't show up at the corner of the street meant this wasn't a movie scene either.
I knew exactly what this meant. I just knew. Like I knew there had been a huge misunderstanding here...
I was in another century. Not Charlotte. Me. Someone had made a huge mistake.
I started shivering. Not only from the shock, but from the cold too. It was freezing here.
'I'd know exactly what to do', Charlotte's words were replaying on my mind like some tape.
Of course, Charlotte would know what to do in a situation like this. But no one had told me.
So I was just standing there shivering not knowing what to do, just watching people passing by, either not paying attention to me, or staring weirdly like I was an alien or something. A young woman with a dress and a coat which reached her ankles was passing by, and behind her there was a man following.
"Excuse me" I said, hoping to get their attention. "Can you tell me what date we have?"
The woman pretended she didn't hear me and walked faster. The man mumbled "doesn't she have any shame?" Walking faster too, to reach the woman.
I sighed in annoyance. I guess this information wouldn't help me in any way. Actually it didn't really matter if I was in 1899 or in 1923.
At least I knew where I was. My house was like 5 minutes from where I am now. And what's safer than going to my house? I mean, I had to do something.
The street was silent while I was walking towards my house, inspecting my surroundings. Most of the houses where just like they were in my time, with small differences. I looked to the direction of the house with the number 18. The doorway was empty. There wasn't the man in the black coat.
Then I saw my house. It was just like how it was in my time. There was light coming from the windows at the first and third floor. I kinda missed my home.
