Summary: Demi is a single mother, whose life isn't that bad. She has everything she needs but then she meets a man who makes her realize that perhaps she needs something... And what she needs is love.
CHAPTER 1
It was an early autumn day but the weather was already cold. The leaves were flying all around the cold streets with bare tress standing still as she, a young beautiful woman, was rushing to the hospital. She was cursing under her breath as she held her jacket close to her body.
She should have taken a taxi. But that moment, when she had got a call from the hospital, telling her that her five year old son had been in a car accident, she hadn't had time to think about the taxi. She had just grabbed her jacket and rushed to the hospital (even though the hospital was in the other end of the town).
Demi entered the hospital and ran to the first nurse she saw. The nurse explained where the traumatology section is (her son was in the traumatology, the nurse, who had called, told her that). Demi didn't bother to say a thank you – her son was in the hospital, how could she care about being polite? - she just nodded her head and rushed up the stairs to the third floor.
She was walking so fast, she could barely breathe but that moment it didn't matter. All that mattered was her son. He was in the hospital without her, he should be scared, he should want his mommy and she wasn't there for him. She had to rush and not think.
"Where is he?" Demi asked breathlessly as she reached the third floor and found her sister, the one who was looking after her five-year-old boy, sitting in the waiting room with a worried expression on her face.
"He's in the examination room" Dallas said, "But you can't go there. He's fine, I promise, Demi." She added, nervously as Demi shoot her a look, which would have killed her if the looks could kill, and turned around looking for that examination room. She would kill her sister later, she thought.
Dallas grabbed Demi's arm and squeezed it gently, making Demi let out a sigh and turn back to her. With an apologizing look, Dallas said, "I'm really sorry, Demi. The street was empty and that car appeared from... nowhere," She apologized but Demi just nodded her head and sat down on the chair in the waiting room feeling desperate.
He is alright, she mentally told herself as she let a deep breath out. "Where's that asshole who drove?" Demi asked, this time her voice was much calmer. She hoped that she wouldn't get a chance to see him or her because she was definitely going to kill that person too.
"He's paying for Jacob's examination," Dallas said, making Demi gasp in surprise and confusion at the same time.
