Hello!
When Wilmer finally gets home, it's after the midnight. He unlocks the door as quietly as possible – it's a really hard thing to do when he's barely standing on his legs – but door is unlocked rather quickly to his own surprise. He opens the door and steps into the apartment quietly because Emma should be sleeping and he really doesn't want to wake her up and explain why he got drunk.
Closing the door behind himself Wilmer locks it. He narrows his eyes so he could see better in the dark and tries to figure out where the couch is but darkness and alcohol is not helping at all, so he lets a sigh escape him as he leans over, puts keys on the floor. He hopes he'll remember where he left the keys in the morning.
"Look, who's finally home."
Oh damn.
His eyes close instantly when the light is turned on, but his eyelids aren't enough to cover his eyes, it seems, because he puts his hand on his face, avoiding the light.
He can hear steps from the kitchen, and when he finally uncovers his eyes and they get used to the light, he sees Emma standing right in front of him. She's sleepy and she's holding a robe tightly around herself as if she's cold. She looks tired and angry and finally Wilmer understands that she was waiting for him all this time. He'd promised to come back early, after all.
And he would have kept his promise if he hasn't gone to the bar to get drunk. You see, after trying to kiss Demi and failing, he was devastated. Of course it was a very bold move, he knew that from beginning, but he didn't think that she would pull away.
No women dared to push him away in the past and it was a huge surprise to him. At first he didn't make a big deal out of it, but when he was a few block away from home, he realized that his stupid action could mean end to their friendship. He took a step too far, but she's a very beautiful woman, who could blame him? It turned out that she really is different.
And then he stopped dead on his track.
For the first time in his life he liked someone, liked someone so much that he started wondering what it would be to live with her for the rest of his life. And it was crazy because he knew her for what? One day? He felt something he couldn't describe and if he ruined his chances with her, he would never forgive himself.
He thought he was going to go insane.
So he decided to get drunk.
But glass after glass he felt even worse. His thoughts kept running, kept torturing him. Frustrated he paid for his drinks and left the bar.
For a few hours he sat in his car and stared nowhere and it was so unlikely him, he didn't care about women that much but this certain woman made him think about her for hours.
Finally when he got cold he got out of his car and unwillingly walked home, completely forgotten about Emma.
"Dad?" Emma's sweet voice snaps him out of his thoughts.
He shakes his head to himself, leans against the door – standing is difficult – and looks up at his confused, daughter. "Why aren't you in bed?" He asks, he tries to sound like a worried father he should be, but he knows that it's a farce. He's failed himself already and he's failing his daughter as well.
"I was waiting for you," She answers, taking a step closer to him. Stretching her hand out for him, she smiles a little and he wants to cry because his daughter is so beautiful and good and he's so drunk, but instead he takes her hand. "You promised to come early, I cooked a pie." She tells him, holding his hand tightly as she slowly helps him walk to the kitchen. "But you never showed up."
