This is basically a series of flashbacks about how Azriel spent the weeks leading up to meeting the queens. Not what I said in the last chapters A/N but yeah.
It says a few weeks in the book in preparation to meet the queens so I'm taking it as three weeks:) In total they will have known each other for a month before they meet with the queens.
Unedited!!
Sorry for the long wait!!P.O.V Azriel
The following weeks passed as such. I met Azras best friend, and it most definitely wasn't who I was expecting. We worked on completing the orphanage(her house) with her family. I got to know more about her job, and she got to know more about mine. I became more acquainted with Azra and her body than I was before. Telling my family that I was courting her.
The Best Friend
This morning before I left for the queen's castle, Azra informed me that her friend from Autumn would be coming today to drop off a case of bourbon, and to have dinner with us. I knew that I would eventually have to meet him, but I've been hoping that it would be a few years before I had to. That I would have more time to feel concrete with Azra and I's relationship before I met her ex fuck buddy. After she told me what would be happening, I warned her that I might be extremely possessive over her, and be very hostile and rude towards him. All she said in return was that she hoped I made an effort to be on my best behavior and that I would come home with an open mind. I promised that I would try to do both, and then gave her a long kiss before I shadow walked away.
After a long and uneventful day, I shadowed home, and not bothering to hide my wings, I opened the front door without knocking. The sight before me shocked me to my very core, my angel laughing and smiling with the devil himself. Eris Vanserra. My body and instincts react before my mind can, shadowing over to where he is sitting I take his throat in my hand.
His eyes bulge out of his head, his face starts turning red, and his hands weakly try to rip my hands from his throat. I hear Azra shoot out of her seat and walk towards me. Her ungloved hands grasp my jaw, making me look at her, "Sweetheart, please let him go. He's not an enemy here, he's a friend. He means no harm to me or you, I promise."
Listening to her soft words I slowly release my grip on Eris's throat, leaving him heaving and coughing as soon as the air fills his lungs again. Stepping back, I take Azra's hand in mine and lead us to a sofa chair. I sit down, my wings hanging over the back, I pull Azra down to sit in my lap. Wiggling to get comfortable she redirects my blood flow to my groin making me grip her hips tightly in warning, she gives me a cheeky knowing smirk, but she finally settles. Looking back to Eris, I remember the promise I made to Azra this morning, and politely stare at him while he sits back in his chair.
"I wasn't expecting a warm welcome, but maybe a little warmer than that." he says chuckling, rubbing the front of his neck awkwardly.
"Never thought you'd be friends with a human. I'm sure your father would be thoroughly disgusted. I'm surprised you haven't told him so you both can delight in Azra's screams." I say coldly, rubbing soothing circles on Azras waist for her to know I don't share the same sentiment and partially for me benefit as well. I don't trust Eris with Azra one bit.
"Despite popular belief, I quite enjoy the company of humans, Azra being one of my favorites to visit, along with her family." he counters.
We continue to stare at each other, mine being much more of a glare than his. "How did you two meet?"
"When I went under the mountain to steal a prized ring of Berons, the buyer was giving a high reward to anyone who could steal it and bring it back to him safely. I couldn't refuse the price." Azra says nonchalantly, sending ice straight into my heart. With my heart pounding against my chest I sputter out, "W-What!?"
