Shimmering in the equatorial sun,
The masters of the sand seas
Are spied by travellers from Ur...
Weeks later,
At their destination,
The travellers tell tales of the beasts
They spied
Whilst trading with their newfound purchaser clientele...
The purchasers,
Who believed the tales,
Investigated the claims...
In turn they told anyone who would listen,
Of the beasts with thorns that protrude from their heads...
The tales crossed boundaries of different peoples,
Travelled seas and oceans,
Crossed generations...
Generations
Who told tales of a horse
With one horn...
The Unicorn...
A white horse,
Beautiful,
Diligent
And formidable...
Its beauty
Allures all who spy it too closely,
To a doomed fate
Of hallucinations,
Thirst
And hunger...
Yet if lucky enough,
To spy it from a far,
Its diligence and formidable urge
Will lead all to the life giving quench
Of water...
To paradise...
