Whiskers-Chapter 9

      Saturday..Oh Saturday
        When are you arriving...
I've been waiting for years for you to come...

I was singing in my head all day, it was a friday today, a normal Friday, nothing special. Yesterday we decided to go to the movies Saturday evening, as a celebration for my birthday, and I really wanted to go watch a new horror movie that recently came out earlier this month. But we had around 15 more hours left until the next day, and a couple more for the evening.
After class I had history, boring old history,
but I do have Rosemary in that class, and I promised her I wouldn't skip that class.
When I got there, she was waiting in a seat already, when she noticed I was there she pointed at a seat for me.
“Hi Jack!” She said, she looked very happy for some reason.
“Hey Rosemary,”
“I have something to tell you,”
“Alright, what is it?”
“I saw a little kitty outside my dorm, and guess where I took it.” She asked with a big smile on her face,
“Umm, I'm not sure..”
“I put him in my dorm! I think I'm going to keep him!”
“Oh you are?”
“Yes! I'll have to take him to the vet though.”
“Well that's nice Rosemary..” A cat? Who knew Rosemary was more of a cats person.
“What color is he?”
“Uhh, I don't remember actually.”
“Oh, alright then.”
After our conversation we were interrupted by our teacher. After history I had one more class and then we were done with the day.

“I will come by later on today,”
“Okay Jack, see you then!”
Rosemary has been asking me to see the kitty all day after history class and I promised her I would see it. I'm not that excited though, because I'm more a dog person than a cat person. But it's worth a try.
“Hey Jack!” Said Felix when I reached the dorm.
“Hello Felix.”
“How was your day?”
“It was good, but I'm going to have to leave later on if that's alright with you.”
“For what?”
“Rosemary found a cat besides her dorm and she wanted me to go see it.”
“Oh, a cat?” He said in this weird voice, I wonder if Felix has a dislike in cats.
“Yes, a cat.”
“Okay, I don't mind at all..”
“Okay then, thanks.”
I lay down on my bed, today was a stressful day somehow, maybe I didn't get that much sleep. Or didn't eat that much. Or I'm just tired. I'm not sure, but that doesn't matter at the moment, I have to finish my homework, eat lunch, and then go see Rosemary again. I had a day ahead of me, which is going to be tiring..

“Felix, who's calling?”
“I don't know.”
I lean over to see who's calling, while reading the number I recognized it. Is that my parents?
“Hello? This is Jack Walten.”
“Oh hello Jack! Soy yo, tu madre!”
“Ohhh hi mom, cómo estás?”
“Im doing well, gracias.”
“Im glad!” I said, I promised my mother I would call her every day, which I guess was a lie, because I haven't called her until now.
“And you Jack? How are you doing?
“Bien, Estoy bien.”
“That's good mi corazón!”
“Yeah it is.”
“Well I just wanted to know how you were doing.”
“Oh ok then.”
“Bye Jack!”
“Adios Madre.”
Well that was a short conversation. At least she's doing well.
“Who was that?”
“My mom.”
“How'd she get our number?”
“....I don't know?”
“Anyways.. Can you help me with this?”
“What it is?”
“Math homework.”
“Give it to me.”
“It's just a bunch of mumbojumbo.”
“You gotta find x.”
“Yeah, I know but my question is how.”
“Uhh, doing the equation?”
“But it's too long.”
“Well I don't want to do it.”
“Ughhhh. Math sucksss.”
“Just do your homework, also it's algebra be specific.” I told him, he wasn't lying though, it was a long equation, I wouldn't want to do it either.
After I finished, I decided to visit rosemary instead of eating lunch, since it was getting pretty dark outside and I wouldn't want her waiting.
“Im going out.” I told Felix
“Okay, I'm getting takeout food.”
“Alright, get me the usual.”
“Got it.”
I took the keys and got walking. Rosemary's dorm was around the corner somewhere. Her dorm number was 179, ours was 168.
When I found it, I knocked, but before I could Rosemary already opened the door.
“Hi Jack!”
“Hey Rosemary, you made me almost trip.”
“Sorry about that, I just heard someone nearby.”
“That's fine.” So Rosemary has hearing powers I'm guessing.
“Come on in!” Rosemary's dorm was the same layout, just more organized. I sat down on her bed and got comfy.
“You look different with your glasses, Jack.”
“Oh these? I forget I had them on.”
She giggled. “You look nice with them on.”
“Thanks.”
“You are Welcome!”
I smiled. I never really got compliments of my glasses, many kids in highschool used to call me a nerd with them on. I'm glad she still likes them.
“Here he comes!” She said excitedly, while holding a white kitten with back spots.
“Do you want to hold him?”
“Uhh sure I guess.”
“Here!” She stretched her arms to me for I could grab it.”
“How do I get it correctly?”
“Give me your hands, then you just grab his stomach, you might feel his inside's though.”
“What, I don't want to feel his insides!”
“No, don't worry, you'll get used to it.”
“I better get used to it.”
She handed over the kitty once more, I grabbed it with care without trying to hurt it.
“You weren't lying about the insides thing.”
“Yeah. I wasn't.” She said in a serious tone but with a smile on her face.
I looked at the kitty. His eyes were blue like the sea. Just like Rosemary.
“He was blue eyes like you.”
“Yup, but his eyes are more blue than mine.”
“That's true. Are you sure he doesn't have rabies?”
“No! He's fine!”
“Okay, okay, calm down, just making sure.”
“Whatever. Do you want to come with me to take him to the vet?”
“Sure.”
“Okay then, let's go!”
We both got up, I handed her the kitty and we got moving, we decided to go to the bus instead of our car. We found a local vet for all kind of animals.
“Can you hold him really quick?”
“Mmhm.”
I grabbed him carefully again and sat him down on my lap.
“Here, take this.” She said while handing me her wallet.
“We'll need this later on.”
“Ok then..”
When her name was called we checked in. The doctor said he was doing well, he just needed a bit more food and water for these next couple of days. But besides that, he was doing pretty good.
“That's good he's okay and not sick or anything.” Rosemary said.
“Yeah, I'm glad he's okay.”
“Okay, let's go to the store now. I need to buy some food for him.”
“Alright, the small one, right?”
“Yeah the one a few blocks away.”
“Ok let's go then!”
Rosemary bought at least 3 bags of cat food, a litter box and other necessities for a kitty.
“That's it I think.”
“We go back to the dorms right?”
“Yes, and then we can get this all settled.”
“I think there's a bus stop somewhere. Unless you want to walk.”
“No, I think the bus is the best option.”
“Right. Well let's go!”
I was indeed right. There was a bus stop nearby, we got ln the bus and got settled. The ride was very nice since it was about sunset.
“Got everything?” I asked.
“Yeah, I'm pretty sure we do.”
“Ok, you can hand me the keys.”
She dug into her pocket and handed them to me. We walked for a bit until we found the dorms again. We got inside, got everything out, sat down, and took a rest. It was a tiring day today.
“Thank you again Jack, I appreciate it." She said while lying down on her bed.
“No need to thank me!” I said while sitting besides her.
“You can lay down y'know?”
“I know that, I just want you to have some space.”
“Okay then, don't blame me if your back hurts.”
“I won't.”
“Anyways, what do you think I should name the kitty?”
“Uhmm I don't know.”
“Im thinking whiskers.”
“That is a cute name. I like it.”
“So his name is whiskers!”
“Yeah, whiskers. I think I should get going now.”
“Already? Okay then, I'll see you tomorrow okay?”
“Yes, tomorrow.”
“Okay, bye.” She said while smiling.
“Bye.”
When I got out, it was pretty dark. I walked down the halls and got to the room. I was pretty tired.
I unlocked the door and got inside. Felix was already asleep. I ate dinner and got ready for bed.
Today was a good long day..
“Good night...” I whispered to myself.
