"I think we shouldn't work, Professor!" A young man called out, spinning his pencil between his fingers. "Well, how come?" The professor asked, grabbing a whiteboard marker. He tested it out on the board. "It's the day before Christmas break!" The young male exclaimed excitedly. "But that shouldn't stop us from learning." The professor said, throwing the dry whiteboard marker away in the trash, he went through the drawers in his desk to find a new one. "But Professor!" The young male groaned. "No buts. Now get your notebooks out." The professor commanded, grabbing a new fresh pack of whiteboard markers.
Felix looked at me, rolling his eyes in annoyance. "We really should get a no work day." He told me, I shrugged. I really didn't mind having to work. We would have two weeks off of school. That's good enough for me. "Well, I suppose so. But, really, it isn't that bad." I told him, curling the bottom of my hair. "I'd still rather do nothing." He grabbed his notebook.
After that class and English, I had Science. I had Rosemary in this class. I haven't talked to her for a while. The last long conversation we had was that she planning to release Whiskers around next year. One of her friends wanted him. I think her name was Linda. I don't quite remember..
"Hey, Rose." I said when I saw her. She waved and smiled at me with her soft smile. She always had a welcoming smile. A smile to make me smile. "Hello, Jack!" She said as soon as I sat down. "How've you been?" I asked her. "I've been good. What about you?" She questioned me. I told her I was good. I always felt happy talking to such a woman. She made me feel special as a person. She made me know I had someone who cared about me.
As that class passed by, I couldn't stop thinking about someone. My mother. I hadn't talked to her since a couple months ago. I was planning on visiting her, but my hometown was pretty far away from Michigan. It would take a while... Rosemary had recommended me an idea to call her and to mail her a gift. What would I give her though? After school, Rosie, Felix, and I walked around the college park. The air was cold and icy. Last month, it froze so badly I almost fell off the stairs. Felix was laughing at me. It was a funny memory. I almost cracked open my skull though.
"Guess what?" Rosemary said, looking at both me and Felix. She had a big grin on her face. "Hm?" Felix asked, pushing his glasses to the bridge of his nose. "I'm buying both of y'all a gift!" She exclaimed. "Oh, really? You didn't have to." I told her. I didn't want her to spend money on Felix nor me. I didn't deserve anything. "It's okay, I already bought them." She said, smiling mischievously. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Did you get me a good gift?" Felix asked. Rosie giggled and nodded. "Well, I think it's a good gift." She told him. "We'll see."
While walking through the park, I noticed how beautiful the park looked. I didn't really like Winter due to the coldness, I was more of an autumn person. But, Winter made the park and the city beautiful. I couldn't handle its beauty. The trees without leaves. The snow that had fallen yesterday covering the benches, fountain, and ground. I held my jacket close to my body. It was getting a little more chiller. "We should head back to the dorms." I interrupted Felix's and Rosemary's conversation. "How come?" Rosie asked me. "It's getting cold," I responded back, looking at her face. Her nose and cheeks were red. "Your nose and cheeks are red. Even your ears." I told her, smirking. She sighed and rolled her eyes playfully. "I don't know what you're talking about." She said. We eventually walked to our dorms. Rosemary tagged along with Felix and I to our dorm. The next day, I woke up. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. I saw Rosemary and Felix beside me. We had all slept in the same bed. We had all watched a movie, a Christmas movie. How did we all fit on a twin sized bed? I thought. Who knows. We probably looked like Junior high kids when they have a sleepover. But instead of kids in Junior high, it was College kids.
