I was walking down a long hallway; it was a little past six in the afternoon and I was late. Not super late, but late enough to get into huge trouble. Sighing as I came to the door I was looking for; I said a silent prayer before entering.
"You're late, Dillon." Ms. Grand, who was not all that grand if you ask me, said. Putting my head down as an apology, I walked over to an empty chair that was sadly right next to hers. "As I was saying, y'all need to realize that y'all were sent here for a reason."
"Can you remind us of that reason Ms. Grand?" Ryan, a boy across from me, asked sarcastically with a smirk on his face. Ryan was a character; he did not care what people thought about him. Whether it was good thoughts or bad. He has been in this program just a bit longer than me. He is the main reason I am still alive. He has literally saved me, multiple times, within these past few years.
"Of course, Mr. Hinson," Ms. Grand said, not catching Ryan's sarcasm. "You're here because your parents have given up on you. Whether that means they passed, gave you up for adoption, left you, whatever the reason is, they did not want you anymore. And we are here to make sure you are aware of that and to make you a better person. So that y'all can find y'alls forever homes."
Ms. Grand was our 'therapist' in this program. Every single one of us was sent here, either recommended by their parents, a doctor, or former therapists that have given upon us. Her tactics were not the best at all, but she's the closest I had to a 'motherly figure' since I was thirteen.
"Our lesson of the day is a bit different than usual. We have a visitor coming here in a few minutes. I want y'all to be on y'alls best behavior." Ms. Grand said, "except you, Dillon, you're not needed for this lesson." I was confused, I was always a part of the lessons. What is so different about this one?
"There has been a request that you be dismissed for this lesson and for you to go to the Room." Ms. Grand said, smirking and I instantly knew it was by her request. I looked up at Ryan, blank-faced as usual, but I could see something in his eyes. He was just as scared as I was. Nobody liked the Room. "Well, get going before our visitor comes." Ms. Grand said, snapping her fingers.
I immediately stood up and started walking to the door I had walked through only minutes before. The Room was on a different level than the therapy room. Walking down the hall, I got to the stairs that led down to the basement. Going down the stairs, each step making the stairs creak, I made it to the basement. The basement had four rooms in it. Three of them were 'conference' rooms for the workers here. We were not allowed in those rooms. The fourth room is what everyone called the Room.
As soon as I walked into the Room, the door slammed shut. Making me jump from the loud noise it made, "you should be used to this by now Dillon." A voice said, cackling. The lights turned on and there he was, Mr. Grand. Mr. Grand and Ms. Grand were siblings that made the program I was in now. Mr. Grand being the 'leader' of the whole place.
"Yes sir," I muttered, head down to apologize.
"Good girl." Mr. Grand said, walking up towards me. "You know the drill." He said, nodding his head toward the chair that sat in the middle of the room.
That is all that was in this room, was that chair. But it was not any ordinary chair. Some would call it a 'trap' chair.
"Yes sir," I said, sadly. Walking towards the chair, removing the sweatshirt and sweatpants provided by the program off my body. Leaving me in a too-small tank top and shorts. I already knew I was about to get in trouble for wearing those items.
"A tank and shorts?" Mr. Grand said, clicking his tongue and shaking head. "You know better." He added, leaving the room shortly and coming back with something in hand that was behind his back. "You may sit." Following his demand, I sat down in the cold chair.
