As soon as they got home, it was a race inside to see who would get to snitch on the other's day first. Lucky for Vance, Robin was the one who drove today. So while Robin was trying to find a parking space. Vance made his escape. He unbuckled and jumped out, slamming the car door shut after him. Even though all the car's windows were up, he could hear Robin threatening him from his car. Yelling curses and things that Robin wouldn't even dare say about or even around anyone but Vance. Is Vance aware that jumping out of the car was a dirty trick? Yes, yes he is. But c'mon, he's gonna snitch on Robin's failed date attempt to their friends, who wouldn't rush to tell them?
And with that, he bolted up the stairs. They have an elevator in the building but it's really fucking slow and people get stuck in there; a lot. At least once a week and right now, he's not risking that shit. They live on the fourth floor, and they learned just how shitty that elevator was on the day they moved in. All he's going to say is he may or may not have had to pay for damages to the elevator. Okay, never mind, he did have to pay but can you blame him? It was ninety-something degrees and that elevator was hot as hell. And he was in there with Billy and Robin, the two worst people to be stuck with n that situation. So, you would try smacking the shit out of the control panel too. He didn't mean to break it, but he had to try something. By the time the fire department got them out, Griffin had already unpacked pretty much all he could bring in on his own. Of course, Griffin took his sweet fucking time laughing outside the elevator before he went to unpack.
As soon as his foot hit the fourth floor, he heard loud footsteps coming up the stairwell. He can make a pretty damn good guess of who that is. He doesn't take any more time to stand around, he pulls his keys out of his pocket on his run to the door. He gets in quickly and slams the door shut behind him, locking it back. He knew for a fact that in Robin's rush to beat him up here, he had probably forgotten his keys in the car. He gets to the living room and then hears the doorknob moving. Followed by some silence, then an extremely loud swear, and more silence followed by some very angry-sounding footsteps. Vance was right, like always. See, this is exactly why Vance is the one that does all the plotting between the two of them. He never forgets that sort of shit.
Now, time to track down the other two. It doesn't take very long, it's Griffin's night to cook and Billy usually sits in there with him to talk. Vance is no gossip, someone's business is entirely their own. But this was his best friend and he just so happened to witness it, so technically, he was involved.
"Robin fucked up and forgot to ask that Finney dude on a date."
Billy looks up at him, taking his eyes away from whatever he's writing for work, there's a confused look on his face. Meanwhile, he knows Griffin heard him loud and clear. That much is clear from his laughing. Griffin laughs a lot, mostly at others' misfortune, in specific, his friend's misfortune.
"It's all he's been talking about, how'd he forget?"
"Who forgot what?"
Vance looks over at Billy who's closed his computer to tune into the conversation. Griffin answers for him.
"Robin forgot to ask for a date with the guy he won't shut up about."
Billy goes slackjawed.
"He doesn't shut the fuck up about him, how?"
"That's what I was trying to ask."
Vance didn't think this far, god damn it. Robin got distracted by him and Bruce. Hey, he could say Robin got distracted by a customer before he could ask and technically that's not a lie. So, he says just that. Griffin and Billy look at him like he's crazy.
"You know good and damn well that he'd ask a customer to wait. What really distracted him?"
And at the simultaneously best and worst possible moment, they hear the front door swing open. Vance hears the slam shut and the same angry footsteps. Shit. Robin stalks into the kitchen, his bandana apparently started slipping while he had been running because it was almost down to his neck and his hair was all moved around. He was sort of sweaty, Vance kind've wanted to find the camera so he could take a picture, for blackmail to show Finney of course. Robin's hair was super flat everywhere his bandana was, it looks like he has some invisible thing around his head
