What a miserable day it had been.
Charles started the day's race form P5, which, in itself, was a bad enough way to start any race.
By some miracle, however, he managed to wrangle the Ferrari up from P5 into P1. Charles was leading the race with not long to go... Only for engine failure to screw up yet another weekend.
Charles was honestly surprised he had any points at all this season, what with the crashes and the DNFs. He was starting to lose hope completely.
Sighing sadly, Charles trudged alongside his teammate Carlos, who was babbling about a game of golf or something that he'd had against his little friend Lando, who drove for McLaren.
Something about how Lando had cheated like he always does by distracting Carlos with something or other, but that he was proud nonetheless because of Lando's improvement at the sport.
In Charles' opinion, the two were as bad as each other regarding their cheating tactics when it came to playing together. However, Charles wasn't really listening.
As fond of Carlos' babbling he was, his mind was currently occupied with the self deprecating thoughts that maybe people where right and he was cursed, that he would never become a Formula One champion, that he would be better off quit-
"Argh!" Charles yelped, his thought processes cut off as a sudden rush of water fell over him. Ducking his head and squinting his eyes, Charles groaned as a clap of thunder roared over his head.
This day just keeps getting worse, Charles couldn't help thinking as water streamed down his face, making it hard to see and breathe as it slid into his eyes and mouth.
It had been sprinkling rain on and off all day, meaning the race still went on, but it had made staying on track all the more difficult, not something the Ferrari driver wanted to add to his long list of car issues.
The light sprinkle had turned into a light drizzle not long ago, and now Charles and Carlos found themselves in the middle of a storm.
Great, just great.
In a matter of moments, the white t-shirt Charles was wearing was soaked through and the icy chill of the rain sinking deep into his bones. Carlos beside him threw his arms up, laughing loudly as the rain pelted down on his tanned skin.
Charles' teeth began to chatter, and his shoes were soaked through, courtesy of the puddle he found himself standing in.
"Carlos, are you crazy! We're going to freeze to death out here." Charles whined, tucking his hands under his armpits, throwing Carlos a glare as he dashed around.
"No Charles," Carlos giggled, smiling gleefully like a small child. "It is wonderful, you see? Come." He said, reaching out and tugging on Charles' folded arms.
"Wha- Carlos!" Charles protested, but Carlos was stronger, tugging Charles' hands free and clasping them in his own.
"Woah!"
Carlos threw his head back and laughed loudly when Charles stumbled, tripping over his own feet as Carlos began to spin them round and round in circles. Blood flushed Charles' cheeks a rosy red, reaching all the way up to the tips of his ears, but despite himself, Charles found his shoulders relaxing agaisnt the pull, allowing Carlos to spin him around in the rain.
He couldn't stop the warm feeling bubbling in his chest as Carlos looked at him, staring deep into Charles eyes with that smile on his face. It was contagious.
"See Charlie! Dance with me mi pequeño cisne." Carlos laughed, breaking out of the spin to twirl Charles around like a ballerina.
Still holding his hand, Carlos tugged Charles towards the puddles growing on the ground, pulling him with him as he jumped into each one.
