7 YEARS LATER

Grayson was walking down the street holding the hands of both his parents. They were walking back from the movie theater to their apartment. The snowflakes floated down and got tangled in his curly brown hair. A man in a black suit speed walked down the street pushing Thomas out of his. The man kept looking down the busy street nervously.

Grayson noticed something he had never seen before on anyone's clocks. He had no years or days or hours or minutes left. His clock only had 15 seconds left. In his mind Grayson was counting down along with the clock. 14... 13... 12... the man looked even more nervous 11... 10... the man checked his phone 9... 8... a unmarked black car drove down the street 7... 6... 5... the window near the sidewalk rolled down 4... 3... a hand popped out holding a gun 2... a woman on the sidewalk screamed 1... gunshot. The man fell to the sidewalk, dead as a doornail.

Maria yelped, grabbed Grayson by the collar of his jacket and threw him into a cafe they were near. The people in the cafe were all huddled against the big glass window trying to see what the gunshot was. Maria bought her son a hot chocolate and sat him in a chair furthest away from the window. Her eyes were wet with tears. Thomas joined them soon afterwards and comforted his wife as she sobbed into his jacket.
