The day started out as usual. There was loud construction causing plumes of pollution to rise up from the repairing street.

Why couldn't anyone see it? The absolute carelessness of the world. It doesn't matter what you do. Because in the long run you might get a little fun out of it, eh?

I sat down and typed out a document on the typewriter.
It was a formal thing, usual for work.
But it was the same old feeling: boredom.
I pulled out the last page and set it neatly on the stack.
Everything was in order.

My legs easily carried me out onto the street.
The wind was a nice greeting after so much boredom. But it wouldn't be enough to quench my thirst.

I followed the street signs with little effort, the wind remaining a little cool though the big metal buildings soaked up so much heat around me.
It didn't take long, only turning a corner to get to my work from my apartment.
I smiled at everyone, nodding, hoping they'd give me an entertaining reaction.
Nope. It was also very boring.

The person behind the desk glanced up at me kindly.
I like kindness, so I smiled back.
"Sorry, my boss took the day off. He's vacationing with his wife."
"Don't worry about it." I said in as charming a voice as I could.
"I could use some time off. I'll just put these on his desk."
She nodded.

I returned from his office and leaned on her desk.
"How are you?"
I didn't care. But it was fun to hear little stories. Maybe she could entertain me.
Besides, if I pretended to care, maybe she'd care about me.
That might quench my constant boredom.

She shrugged. "I'm alright."
I smiled. Oh good, no more acting.

I left the building.
Now it was my turn to vacation.
