Shattered Dreams

One second Alpha was standing in the chapel, awaiting the next instruction from Inigo, and the next, he was in his dreamscape again.

He jumped up from the sofa he'd been sitting on and his brain struggled to catch up with suddenly being in charge of his body again. Shit. Well, he knew that his body was still in the chapel; this was a figment of his imagination...

Or Inigo’s, because the fire demon was there with him too, studying him with flaming eyes.

“Come here, little Flame,” the demon commanded. Alpha obeyed him just as sure as if the demon still had control of his body. He didn’t want to make him any more angry than he already seemed to be. The demon's temper scorched his skin. “I am certain that you recall our last little tête-à-tête?” he said as he reached out a clawed hand to tilt Alpha’s head back.

He tried not to show any fear, but the demon would know he was absolutely fucking terrified. Alpha nodded his head as best he could and Inigo gave him a humourless smile.

“Imagine my disappointment when I learned just now, when I was inside your head, that you had disregarded my kind offer to you.”

He ran his claws through Alpha’s hair again. Alpha's mouth went dry and he swallowed against it.

“I couldn’t sell out my friend like that. It wouldn’t be right.”

Inigo’s hold on his hair tightened and he wrenched his head to the side, bringing his face in closer. Alpha closed his eyes.

Look at me!” he demanded. Alpha flinched and obeyed once again. “Since when do you care about what is right? You are my agent of chaos! Where are your balls, little Flame? The wheels have been set into motion already! The ghuleh is being summoned when it is time. I toyed with Fate to bring you what you wanted.”

Alpha could feel himself trembling.

“I wanted to help you. I tried to think of something that would please you! I tried my fucking best!”

Inigo’s other hand wrapped around Alpha’s throat in a possessive hold.

“You didn’t need to do any thinking! You just needed to do as I asked. Now I see where your loyalties lie and I realise you cannot be trusted.”

Alpha dropped his eyes and the demon shoved him down onto the sofa. He kept his eyes trained on the ground and tried to think of something he could say that would fix this.

“I’m grateful to you, Inigo, I really am, but I couldn’t do the dirty on either of them. I just couldn’t. I didn’t mean any disrespect to you.”

He felt a surge of heat flash over his skin as the demon’s anger reached him. Alpha met his eyes, the red flames glowed brighter and he cowered away. Inigo leaned down towards him so that their faces were level once again.

“You should have kept in my favour, ghoul. In time, you will find out just how much you’ve displeased me. It will take a little while for fate to reconfigure, but know that you will be left wanting that which you were offered. You will suffer as another steals the life that should have been yours from under your nose. I look forward to reaping the chaos and the misery from you, little Flame.”

Alpha was suddenly back in the chapel. He was still under Inigo’s control, but he felt a hot tear escape his eye.

He didn’t know why he was so upset, though. He just wanted to make sure Inigo was happy.

Alpha loved him so much, he would do anything to please him.
