CHAPTER 2LOVESTRUCK

"that was a quick decision... are you sure about this?"

maki is taken aback with your snappy comeback; your abrupt curt catching her off guard. your smug grin was unshakeable and could not be wiped away by any challenge. maki could only gaze in admiration as she beheld your expertise in matters of the heart— so this is what it feels like to work with a love guru!

did one fleeting glance truly provide you with sufficient insight to ascertain that this was the ideal client who perfectly aligns with your modus operandi? maki finds it difficult to ignore the perilous implications of such a hasty decision— perchance, this was her responsibility as an assistant to furnish you with the actuality at hand.

"is... something the matter?" you concerningly ask.

unlike satoru, who always seemed to push you towards taking on whatever was presented to you on a silver platter, you found yourself feeling differently with maki. perhaps it was her sense of urgency she carried with her, but you couldn't help but feel a heightened level of awareness.

"this guy..." maki's finger extended towards the picture, referring to the black-haired male captured in the photograph. "he has his eyes closed! —in his own damn ID picture! is he not ashamed?!"

...

seems like you hired quite a judgmental person, but you were intrigued. you could use this analytical observation, at any means.

as you gazed at the photograph, you couldn't help but acknowledge that maki's observation was accurate. the black-haired male in the picture had his eyes shut, leaving you to assume that he may not have been accustomed to the brightness of the camera flash. his spiky and unkempt hair added to his disheveled appearance, and his nonchalant expression seemed to suggest that his picture had been taken against his will— or at the very least—without his enthusiasm.

"...is that a reason why i shouldn't accept this client?"

"there are way more promising clients—!" maki scattered various papers across their respective staplers. "like this one! miwa kasumi—..." she hurriedly reads. "the second on reservation!"

"but he was the first in reservation, was he? everything is going well, maki. i have a lot of trust in my abilities." you could only execute a gesture of flipping your hair, indicating a sense of nonchalance. "aside from making love bloom— this will give me a lot of money. we should treat our customer well of what he wishes!"

you appeared to be positively giddy with excitement. maki could practically discern the reflections of a downpour of money in your eyes, reflecting your ultimate drive ever since you started working. while money may be your primary incentive, there is nothing inherently wrong with that— maki was going to benefit anyway.
