Emma couldn't stop thinking about Alex. She found herself daydreaming about him during class and getting distracted by the thought of his smile or the sound of his laugh. She was pretty sure she had a crush on him, but she didn't know how to tell him or even if she should.

One day, they were sitting together at a coffee shop, enjoying some hot drinks and chatting about music. Emma felt like they had a really good connection, and she was hoping that maybe something more would happen between them.

But then Alex suddenly got up, saying he had to leave. Emma was confused and disappointed. Had she done something wrong? Did he not like her after all?

Over the next few days, Emma started to notice other strange behaviors from Alex. Sometimes he would be incredibly attentive and sweet, bringing her little gifts or complimenting her on her outfit. Other times, he would be distant or even outright ignore her.

Emma didn't know what to make of it. Was Alex playing games with her? Did he like her or not? She started to feel anxious and uncertain, worried that she was misreading the signals or that she was making a fool of herself.

One day, she couldn't take it anymore. She decided to confront Alex about his behavior. "Look," she said, as they sat on a park bench. "I don't know what's going on with us, but I'm really confused. Sometimes you act like you're into me, and other times you seem like you don't even care."

Alex looked down, seeming uncomfortable. "I'm sorry," he said finally. "I didn't mean to give you mixed signals. The truth is, I do like you, Emma. I think you're amazing. But I'm going through some stuff right now, and I don't know if I'm ready for a relationship."

Emma felt a mix of relief and disappointment. She was glad to know that she hadn't been imagining things, but she was also sad that Alex didn't feel the same way she did. "That's okay," she said softly. "I understand. We can still be friends, right?"

Alex nodded, looking grateful. "Of course. I still want to hang out with you. And who knows? Maybe in the future, things will be different."

Emma smiled, feeling hopeful. She didn't know what the future held, but for now, she was just glad to have Alex in her life.
