Lea's POV
"Lea, this is the third time you've called me today. What's wrong?"
I sighed, taking a deep breath. It had been quite the morning for me. I have seen so many things and it's not even noon yet. Of course, I just can't simply ignore anything that's going on. I'm constantly being confronted with all this evidence, and finally, I may have just the solution.
"I want to tell you here in person" I replied, shortly and wanting to get straight to the point. "Something's going on, and you are going to help me figure it out"
A loud sigh came from my friend on the other hand before she briefly replied "I'll see you then" And hung up.
Now, I do feel bad I've called so much and given no context, but I just couldn't find myself saying the words. Maybe, it'll come easier in person. However, waiting was the most difficult part. I know I could just spring into action, but, I am not always the most rational. So, I just decided to wait for Samantha to come over.
After hours of waiting, a loud knock came on my door. I quickly jumped up and luckily for me, Samantha was right there.
"You don't know how much I needed you here right now!"
"Anything for you" Samantha replied, dumping her bags on the cold tile floor before coming in and shutting the door behind herself. "So, what's going on Lea?"
I took a deep breath and sighed...What was going on? It could very well be in my head, but I am not willing to just sit here and do nothing.
"It's about Salem."
"Salem?" She asked, obviously very puzzled. "He's a great kid, has good grades, and is nice to everyone. What could be wrong with him?"
After pushing up my glasses and grabbing a piece of paper, I handed it over to her.
She looked up at me, a bit hesitant. "If this is your child's note, we shouldn't be snooping"
"Read it. I didn't mean to snoop, it was left on the counter for him and I got to it first."
"I...Really shouldn't-"
"Fine then." I take back the paper and begin to read it out loud. "Salem, I love you so much and yesterday was so much fun. We should do it again today."
"Who wrote that?"
"His father."
"So, what exactly is the problem"
"All day yesterday, they were here. Alone. Or so I thought, if he took him somewhere, he should have told me."
"But, he's his kid too. You are both parents and you both get to take care of your children and have fun with them"
"No...I have a bad feeling about this Samantha. It doesn't seem like much, but it very well could be. Alex isn't the type to write notes. I just don't feel comfortable with him being around Salem-"
"His own child? How would you feel if you were kept from your child, huh?"
"I know, but please hear me out. You know I would never keep them from each other, however, there's something weird in the way Alex treats Salem, hence why I brought you here. I wanted to put cameras in the house and see if something was going on."
Samantha sat down, thinking about my proposal. It was very clear she was against invading their privacy and she thought very little of the note, which I understand. But, this feeling is gnawing at me and I need to figure it out before something bad happens.
"I know someone. She can help you install the cameras. But, this is for Salem. Something better be wrong if you're spying and snooping around" She snapped, writing a number on the back of the piece of paper and handing it over to me.
"Thank you, Sam, you don't know how much it means to me"
She nodded, before walking over and taking my hands in hers. "It's going to be okay. Just breathe and we will get through this. I'm sure it's nothing, but if it makes you feel better, we can do it."
I smiled and nodded over at her as she grabbed her bags and walked out of the door. Just as she did, Salem walked in.
