⎯⎯ chapter one.

SAMARA RUMMAGED THROUGH HER drawer, contemplating which swimsuit she should wear for the day.

"you know, i never really understood why you have a closet full of actual clothes when all you wear is swimsuits." sarah joked from samaras bed. samara laughed.

"clothes are overrated when you live on an island where the temperature is over 60 degrees every day. so, swimsuits and shorts are all i need." samara smiled.

sarah got up from the girls bed and went over to her, looking at the millions of swimsuits in her drawer. "you should wear that one." sarah suggested, pointing at a swimsuit.

samara picked it up, furrowing her eyebrows at the solid teal swimsuit. "really? why?"

sarah jokingly rolled her eyes, "because it makes your pop and you look super hot in it." the dirty blonde winked at her friend.

samara snickered at her friends antics. "okay. i'll wear it then." she shrugged, walking into her personal bathroom.

after slipping on the teal bikini, she checked herself out in the mirror. she was then startled by a knock on the door. "what's taking you so long? are you checking yourself out or something?" sarah asked from the other side of the door.

the brown skinned girl opened the door quickly, "girl, please, you already know the answer to that." she winked, mocking her friends actions.

"whatever, let's go before we're late to the party." sarah smiled, dragging samara by her arm. "okay, let me put on my shoes!" samara laughed, grabbing her white, air force 1's.

she quickly put the shoes on before running out of her room with sarah. "bye, mom and dad! i'll be home later! love you!" she shouted with a laugh, rushing out of her front door.

when they arrived at the boneyard, it was already packed.

"hey, i'm gonna go get some beer. do you wanna come?" samara asked sarah who was starting to climb on top of something that samara couldn't pinpoint.

sarah shook her head, "no, i'm fine. you go without me." she waved her off. samara sent her a thumbs up and went away towards the beer.

making her way to the keg which was surrounded by everyone, she noticed none other than pope heyward.

"hey, cuzzo!" she smiled, engulfing him in a huge hug. "mara, hey!" he exclaimed, hugging her back.

"long time, no see, huh?" she asked, pulling away from the hug. pope nodded, "i know right? the last time i saw you was when you first moved to obx!"

"yeah, i know. how's auntie and uncle heyward doing?" "they're doing good. they're doing really good, how's aunt sandra and uncle josh?" "they're the same as usual. oh! did you know that seb is in the UK for college majoring in art and design?" popes eyes widened at her words.

"the UK? as in the united kingdom? in europe?" he asked in disbelief. "yep." she nodded with a smile, popping the p. "woah, wow. i mean- that's- wow. congrats to him." he smiled.

"hey, pope you won't believe who- oh, who's this?" a boy with blonde hair asked pope, putting an arm around his shoulder.

pope inhaled sharply, knowing what jj was aiming for. "this is samara, my cousin."
