Alra told her about the Grey cloud. A new world she never knew existed. The dark plague that everyone didn't realize had consumed them, spreading. The entire Fore did not just suffer from the dark soul's influence, but deluded salvation that had been spoken to them among the people themselves.
Laith crumpled at Alra's side until she was asleep. Alra warned her, don't show your gift at all costs. It was the only way they won't notice what she could do, what she was capable of. When the time was right, ran as fast as possible. But she didn't even know how to control her gift. She was a Vessel, after all. Alra explained to her, that mortals were only blessed with two gifts; fire and ice. Varynx were the dark souls with the gift of nightmare and mayhem while Yver was blessed with the gift of light. Varynx and Yver were inhuman, so any mortal that possessed their power was also considered a Forbiddenchild. Forbid to be born.
That was when Alra spoke about how the ancient prince of Fore killed the Fire Guardian, the former king of the Fireland. And how the whole land had to pay the price.
Afterward, Invera had done nothing less. After her husband's death, the flame queen, Liuvaen, presented her daughter's blood to The Shade: the highest spirit of the dark souls. She then proclaimed her love to the darkness and swore Fore will meet its doom when the Dark Guardian arose from her blood and devoured them until no one was left behind. Varynx immediately took the chance and roamed around the land, seeking, haunting to fulfill their stomach. The dark creatures kept their promise as they galloped the whole Fireland from anyone entering. The entire kingdom then disappeared from Beyond Land to the place no one would ever know; leaving the remained Invera scattered in Frostland unattained, injustice.
The king's hunger for another war had weighed Frostland; to banish Invera from his territory. Thus Forbiddenchild was born, as the sign of Radia and Yven's wrath to the Fore. The former Frostking detested the Gods, claiming that Forbiddenchilds were opposites of gift; a curse that said would bring down Frostking's throne. The Gods, then declared that no other Guardians were allowed to step into the business of the mortal. Fore was running out of time, the royal, the tribes; they need to find the next Guardian before they killed each other first. Their only hope was Forbiddenchild, a human with the gift of light. Their once-proclaimed curse turned out to be their only hope for their land. They need to find them both. Faster.
It wasn't long after Alra murmured in Vernic. She was already lost in her dreams.
Laith tried to bring herself to the land of dreams, but her head couldn't stop thinking. She must listen to her. She must protect her. There was one question she bit her tongue to ask, but she really eager to know; what was Alra's gift that deserved her to a place like this? Rez said she was a Forbiddenchild. But she saw nothing harm arose around the girl. Then she realized her eyes were wide open, staring at the dark ceiling of the prison.
She couldn't keep her promise this time. She needed to know what would they do to her. To them.
She slipped from Alra's embrace. Thanks to Rez to show her the hidden path; the guards always patrolled around midnight, so all she need to do was grab the key from his clanking pocket. She closed her eyes and leaned her head over to the bar as he slowly paced through her cells, her hand slipped into his hips, pulling the silver keys and shoving them slowly beneath her arm's clothes. She knew she couldn't escape the building, but that was what she wanted. She had to find the chamber that they locked her before. To find the truth. Things they would do to them after this.
She got an hour until he came back and realized she was gone. Laith slowly walk to the tunnel she seemed before. Rez said guards had used that path to walk in and out of the prison and led you upstairs. She walked closer to the wall, gritted her teeth as the cold wind from the darkness in front whipped past her. Then, she saw a door. She pushed and saw a stair, dimmer, circulating, up. She blew a breath. Palm raised, fire flickered, and bloomed from her fingers. Not too big. just to enlighten the path ahead. She saw a way out. Her breath burned as soon as she stepped outside, burying her bare feet in the snow, shivering. It was a long since she had seen the outside world, but she knew she couldn't escape through the giant walls and mountains that surround the buildings. So she waited, finding out their movement in and out of Vank. There must be a way out. She bobbed, through the hazy ice wind, to another building that was made of glass. She looked for the hopper around the building and got in. The basement, she recalled, was filled with racks of wine barrels, but not less cold here. Somehow, her body temperature already adapted to the extreme cold.
