I sat patiently waiting in the little lavender coloured chair in the living room of my one bedroom home. My Granddaughter was in the kitchen making some tea for the guests whom were on their way, and my Great Granddaughter and her husband sat on the couch hand in hand with each other. I felt joy for them even though there is history between her husbands's Grandfather and I. It's not exactly good history but in the end, we made amends.
"Nana, are you sure you want to do this? I mean it's been almost 70 years, what use will it do?" Kaylee, my Great Granddaughter asked curiously. She posed a good point. What good would it do to spill half a century old secrets? What good would it pose to finally point the finger after almost 70 years?
"It's so that I can die happy. I can die knowing that after 68 years of being silent I can make a small difference." I told her with a ginger smile. I felt at peace knowing that this was the right thing to do. It's been a very long time since I found out the truth. 68 years to be exact. I've lived with this secret for 68 years. It's time to let the world know the truth, bury the skeletons that were in the closet for a long time. 68 years and now the families are finally able to be at peace.
All of the attention was drawn to the front door when there was a knocking on it. Kaylee got up off of the couch, leaving her husband to scoot to one end in order to make room for our guests. Kaylee and Susan came into the living room with Detective Newton trailing behind them. The young Detective stepped into the living room, removing his sunglasses.
"Mrs Busek, I'm Detective Newton. You've requested to see me." The Detective greeted with a kind smile. I was immediately brought back to the first time I'd ever spoken to a Detective about the Black Dahlia murders. That was back in 1947 when the body of Elizabeth Short was discovered.
"Yes, please sit down. You will be here a while." I told him sweetly. Detective Newton took a seat on the couch in front of me with a curious expression on his baby face.
"Mrs Busek, may I ask what this is about?" The young Detective asked considerately. I smiled at him as the old memories were pulled from the depths of my mind. There was a thickly filled envelope sitting on my lap. My last piece of work, to be frank.
"I have some information about the Black Dahlia murders back between 1941 and 1949."
Hey guys,
I know, I know; another story, really Kat?! But this is a different one that I've never done before. I've never done a historic story before so let's see where this will go.
