It's been over two or three years, and I'm surprised to find myself updating again. I've reread the previous chapters, including the first part of this chapter, and yikes! I'd like to think that my writing has improved over the years.
And guys, please bear with me if I get something wrong, I haven't watched Naruto in years, let alone read a Naruto fanfic. This chapter has been in my drafts since 2023.
Enjoy and comment your thoughts and/or suggestions! Don't forget to vote if you like the chapter.
Chapter 10- That Girl
The three kids— and Tobi— walked quietly alongside each other before Sakura broke the silence.
"So, what is your name?" she asks the anbu, dragging her tiny sandals against the gravel. "I already know Shisui, and his name is Karasu, but what's yours?" The masked ninja narrowed his eyes. He had already been skeptical enough of this strange kid; he barely wanted to give her his code name.
"Inu," he answered.
"Dog? Hm, that's a peculiar name, right Tobi?" Sakura asks while giggling. All three of the anbu made sure to send a little more chakra towards their ears, expecting to hear something or someone else.
"It's a code name. These type of ninja don't give their actual names while on their job," he explained, eyeing the two young ninja next to Inu. He slightly frowned. Tobirama could understand the kids being regular ninjas, but the Anbu?
"I wish I had a code name," she replied, smiling to herself. The three ninjas that followed behind her were dumbfounded. Who was she talking to?
A couple of minutes later, they reached her house.
"Well, we're here," Sakura said quietly as she stopped right in front of her porch steps. Sakura grasped the doorknob with shaky hands and began to twist. She pushed the door open and walked inside, making sure not to step on broken glass. They were hit with the harsh stench of alcohol and rotten food. The ninja silently followed suit, minding their step as well. Being in the Black Ops, you're sure to see gory and horrible sights— it was a part of the job. Seeing things like child neglect or abuse couldn't faze them in the slightest. This would've been the case for Shisui, but he knew Sakura personally, and she was the sweetest kid he had ever met. He wanted to revisit her after the incident, but he was assigned to a mission immediately after, and it took two whole weeks. He scolded himself for not checking to see if she was okay at home. He was taken out of his thoughts when his superior, Inu, spoke to both him and Karasu.
"I need to report this case to the Hokage. I'm leaving the updates to you until further notice, Mado." Without waiting for a response, Inu vanished. The two anbu looked towards Sakura, who stared down her hallway anxiously. Karasu, who had been quiet the entire time, turned to Mado, also known as Shisui.
"Is this not the same girl we found a couple of weeks ago?" He asked quietly.
"It is," Mado answered. Two anbu watched as Sakura turned to her left and looked at nothing in particular.
"He's not here," Tobi says. The house was empty, and neither Sakura's mother nor father had been inside the house for what looked like a couple of hours. Sakura let out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. Technically, this whole situation shouldn't have had anything to do with her, and she had no idea what to tell her parents. Hell, Sakura was probably more confused than the ninja were. Speaking of which,
"He's not here," she yawns. She looked towards her bedroom and thought about going to sleep. It's way past her bedtime. Mado notices and checks the time: 12:23 am.
"Do you know where they might be?" He asked.
"My Dad is probably at work, and my mom is probably at the holitispal."
