Rachel sat alone in her car, staring blankly out of the windshield. The sun was setting in the distance, casting a warm glow over the trees lining the street. It was her first day on the job at the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit , and she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as you prepared to meet your new team. Rachel had lost so much in her life already, and the thought of starting fresh in a new environment was both exciting and terrifying.Rachel had just stepped into the BAU headquarters, excitement and nervousness tingling through her veins. She had always dreamed of being a part of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, and today was the day her dream came true. Rachel had even arrived early to make sure she had time to settle in and get a feel for her new environment before the rest of the team arrived.
As she was looking around the new office space, her phone rang. It was an unknown number, which was strange since she didn't have a lot of people around her, except her grandmother. She answered the phone and a lady's voice was trembling.
"Rachel Lynch, I'm a nurse from Quantico's hospital, your grandmother has been taken to the hospital. It's serious, and we don't know if she's going to make it."
She felt your heart sink. Her grandmother had always been her rock, her source of support and comfort. She knew she had to be there for her, but she didn't want to lose her first day at the BAU.
"I'll be there as soon as I can," Rachel said, trying to keep her voice steady. She hung up the phone and took a deep breath, trying to compose herself.
Just then, Agent Hotchner walked into the office, his usual stern expression softening as he saw her troubled face.
"Is everything alright?" he asked, his tone gentle.
Rachel took a deep breath before speaking. "My grandmother has been taken to the hospital. It's serious, and I need to go see her."
Agent Hotchner nodded understandingly. "Of course. Take all the time you need. Family comes first."
She felt a wave of relief wash over her. She had been worried about how her new team would react to her sudden departure on her first day. But Agent Hotchner's words made her feel welcomed and supported.
"Thank you, sir, really thank you so much" she said, her voice breaking slightly.
Agent Hotchner put a hand on her shoulder. "We're a family here, Agent Lynch. We look out for each other."
Rachel nodded, feeling grateful for the kindness of her new boss. She quickly gathered her things and headed out to catch a taxi to be with her family, hoping that her grandmother would pull through.
She enter the hospital room to see her grandmother lying on the bed, looking weak and frail.
"Grandma! How are you feeling? Are you okay?", she said getting close to her.
"Rachel, my darling. I'm so glad you're here. Isn't today your first day at your new job?", she responded weakly.
"Yes, Grandma, it is. But none of that matters right now. What happened? Why are you in the hospital?", she asked tearfully.
"I had a heart attack, dear. The doctors are doing all they can to help me recover."
"Oh my God. I can't believe this is happening. You're the only person I've left, and I don't know what I would do without you.", she said upset.
"Don't worry, my love.", she took your hand in hers. "I'm a tough old bird, and I'm not ready to go yet. How was your first day at work?"
"I don't want to talk about that right now, Grandma. I just want to be here with you."
"Rachel, listen to me.", she seemed concerned. "You have a great future ahead of you, and I don't want my illness to distract you from your dreams. Promise me you'll keep going, no matter what happens to me."
"I promise, Grandma. I won't let you down."
"That's my girl. I'm so proud of you, Rachel.", she smiled. "You've grown up to be such a strong and intelligent young woman, and I know you'll do great things at your new job."
Rachel smiled back an said "Thanks, Grandma. You've always believed in me, and I won't let you down."
"Now, let me rest for a bit.", she said closing her eyes. "And go back to work, I'll be okay."
Rachel stayed by her grandmother's side, holding her hand and talking softly to her a few minutes. Her grandmother is the one who raised her and has always been there for her, and she's determined to do the same for her grandmother now.
Rachel rushed into the BAU conference room, her breaths coming in short, quick gasps. Her hair was disheveled, her eyes rimmed with exhaustion. She had just come back from the hospital after visiting her ailing grandmother. She was already worried about her grandma, and being late for her first day at the BAU did not make things easier.
As she entered the room, she felt all eyes on her. She could feel her cheeks flushing red under their scrutiny. She took a deep breath, straightened her jacket, and tried to compose herself. She walked towards the conference table, where the BAU team was sitting.
"Sorry I'm late," she said, her voice quavering slightly. "I had an emergency."
Hotch nodded understandingly, but she could feel the rest of the team's eyes still fixed on She You tried to ignore them and quickly took a seat.
Morgan, the team's resident jock, broke the awkward silence. "Well, well, well, look who finally decided to show up."
Rachel tried to keep her composure, but she could feel a flush of anger rising to her cheeks. She hated being the center of attention, and she could feel her anxiety starting to build. But then, she caught Reid's eye. He gave her a small smile of encouragement, and she felt a little more at ease.
Garcia, the team's tech wizard, chimed in with a teasing grin. "Hey, it's not a party until the new girl arrives, right?"
Rachel couldn't help but crack a small smile, feeling a little more comfortable with the team's light-hearted teasing.
As the meeting continued, she listened intently, determined to show the team that she was just as capable and dedicated as they were. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to prove herself to them. And as the meeting drew to a close, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that her first day was over.
After settling in at her desk, Rachel took a deep breath and stood up to introduce herself to the rest of the team properly. She walked to the center of the room where the team was gathered, feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement.
"Hi everyone," she began, trying to sound confident. "I'm Rachel Lynch. I just joined the BAU as a special agent."
The team members looked up at her, some nodding in acknowledgement while others continued to work on their cases. Rachel cleared her throat and continued, "I'm originally from Texas, but I've been working for the FBI for a few years now. I'm really excited to be here and work with all of you."
She looked around the room, making eye contact with each of the team members in turn. She noticed that some of them were still skeptical of her, but she hoped that she could win them over with her dedication and hard work.
"I know I have a lot to learn, but I'm eager to get started and contribute to the team in any way I can," she finished, smiling hopefully.
The team members gave her a few polite nods and murmurs of welcome before turning back to their work. Rachel felt a pang of disappointment, but she reminded herself that she needed to earn their trust and respect through her actions, not just her words. With renewed determination, she returned to her desk and dove into her work
