Tanjiro sat in the dimly lit room, a book open on his lap. Beside him, his little sister Hanako gazed up at him intently as he read to her in a calm, gentle tone.

"And so the little girl travelled far into the deep dark woods, unafraid of what creatures might lurk among the trees. For she knew that as long as she had her courage and kindness, no harm would come to her."

Hanako listened enraptured, always loving her older brother's bedtime stories. But as the hour grew late, her stomach let out a growl. "Onii-chan, I'm hungry," she said, rubbing her belly.

"Ah.."

Tanjiro frowned, unsure of how to satisfy her needs. Food was something he knew little about, and the human city held far too many temptations for his unsteady control. A flash of hunger sparked in his crimson eyes before he shut them tight, quelling the rising thirst within.

When he opened them again, Hanako saw only her beloved brother smiling down at her. "I shall ask Father first. I'll fulfil that wish of yours," he said softly.

Tanjiro snapped the book shut and gently placed a hand over Hanako's eyes, his clawed fingers delicately brushing her skin. He began to sing a soft lullaby.

As Hanako drifted off to sleep, Tanjiro's smile melted away. He knew not where to find sustenance for his human sister in a world that was not his own. But one thing was for sure:

"I'll do anything for you."

A gleam shrouded his blood-red eyes, and a grin enveloped his mouth.

"Anything."
