The Fatal Fight

Once everyone was ready I shifted into my tiger. I could feel the stares on me but I payed them no heed. Then we waited. Theo and I decided not to engage the horse shifters in the trees but in the clearing of the village. So that they wouldn't be able to sneak up on us while we are fighting.

We didn't have to wait long because we could hear them galloping through the trees towards us. They weren't going for a stealth approach. When they struck we were ready for them.

Fighting them was easy, it was if they weren't putting their hearts into the fight. The only one who was really fighting was Balthazar.

Just as I was about to engage Balthazar Theo charged in front of me to fight him. He got a few good attacks in too. But just as he was going for a bite to one of Balthazar legs. Balthazar kicked him in the head and Theo went flying.

After seeing this all I could see was red. I ran and jumped onto Balthazar's back and dug my claws in. Then I grabbed his neck in my jaws and snapped it as if it was a toothpick.

I leaped off of his back before his body collapsed and ran over to Theo, who's breathing was very shallow.
"Theo?" I ask

Hearing my voice he stirred.
"Guinevere, I need you to take my place as Alpha when I die" he rasped
"What! No I can't" I say scared of the idea
"You have to. I want you to. I trust you" Theo says, his voice fading
"How? I don't know what to do"
"Be yourself" Theo says as the life fades from his eyes.

I just sat there shocked for a couple of minutes until I felt a hand on my shoulder. I look up and see Aspen. He has tears in his eyes but he doesn't let them fall.
"What are you going to do? Are you going to become our Alpha" he asks me.

I shift into human form and look him in the eye.
"I am going to honour Theo's wishes and become your Alpha. But only if that is what you and the other wolves want"
"Well it's a good thing that everyone likes you" Aspen says beaming at me.
"But I'll only become Alpha if we rule together"
"I could deal with that" Aspen replies with a smirk
