Rhys' POV:

'So do you actually have conversation's with them? Like Hi mr tree, how are you mr tree? oh i'm great Theo, thank's for ask-'

Theo clearly didn't find my impression's amusing as he shoved my shoulder. I chuckled as we continued walking through the dirt and bushes. We decided to try and stay covered, we would be fool's to walk out in the open along the dirt roads.

I wondered if I should tell him what I could do. It made me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one who got a gift alongside the sight. I wondered how many other people out there have it, and if they all have special powers as well. Maybe I'll just keep it quiet until I have to use it, save's Theo asking me a thousand different question's right now when I would much rather find out where we're going.

'It's not like they speak to you, like you thought,' I looked at him as he spoke up. He was walking a little ahead of me with a long stick in his hand that he was swinging around.

'I ask them something, and then you just know. Like, say we were at a cross road and I asked if left or right was the right way, I would just know. It's hard to explain, I guess'

I hummed in response and we continued to walk in silence. He wasn't lying about it being helpful at least. If what he's saying is true, seeing as I can't exactly rule out that he is lying due to me not being able to fucking read him. That thought alone suddenly dawned on me quite heavily. I've only known Theo for like, forty-eight hours, I'm not great at keeping up with time. I have trusted him way too quickly.

'You reek of doubt. What's wrong?'

I nearly walked into him as he suddenly stopped. I looked at him, yet again trying to get anything from him. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to tell him that I'm suddenly quite wary about this whole situation. Everything was fine until he showed up. Whatever memories of Canaan I had, were still there. The outpost was boring, but I was fine. I wasn't criminal, and I wasn't cursed.

'How do I know I can trust you?'

He sighed as he looked up to the sky. I felt a bit stupid, like a coward for even asking the question. Either way, it's too late to turn back. I've already left.

'You can't, Rhys' he looked at me as a sad smile painted his face. 'You cant trust me, and I cant trust you. Not fully. No one can. Trust is too much of an easy word these days. However, I promise you I don't mean you any harm, and I genuinely want to help you.'

'But why? We've known each other for two day's, and now you're willing to risk your life, crossing boarders and finding evil witches-'

'Elves'

'Witch. And for what reason?'

'Because Earth Elves are nosy fuckers who need to know everything, and it's bothersome that I have no answers for you when I normally have the answer for everything. Now can we continue our journey? I promise we can talk more about your doubt's when we find some shelter for the night'

He walked away before I could reply so I shut up and followed after him. He definitely has something he isn't telling me, but I'm the same. I do think he was telling the truth about wanting to help me. He did burn his hands trying to help me.

'Lead the way O Lord of Tree's'

The sun was beginning to set so we started looking for shelter. Of course by we I mean Theo asking the mud where the nearest cave is. His gift is cool but I'll never stop annoying him about it. We had made good distance, walking for two or three hours. So far nothing got in our way, which I wasn't sure was necessarily a good thing.

He hadn't spoken much after what was said earlier, and I'm not one for making conversation so it stayed like that for the rest of the journey.

After a couple more minutes we found a small clearing into a cave. It wasn't big, it looked like most of it had collapsed in on itself but there was plenty of room to make camp. After setting up sleeping bags and placing a lantern in the middle, Theo bought out a crumpled piece of paper which I quickly realised was a map.

'I found this in one of the drawers at your outpost. So, I believe we are somewhere around here. We need to head towards Moongarde, which will be hopefully just another day's travel. It's the nearest town and we'll need to get some more supplies for the rest of the journey'

'I think I've heard of Moongarde. It's quite a small human settlement. Are you sure it will be safe? I wouldn't be surprised if there's wanted posters with my face stuck everywhere.'

'Luckily they don't really involve themselves with government issues so I highly doubt it, but it's best to be cautious wherever we go now.'

I nodded. I hope he's right, the thought of innocent civilian's getting caught in the crossfire left a sour taste in my mouth.

'Right,' Theo turned the lantern out as he spoke. 'Best get some rest, who know's what tomorrow brings. Goodnight'

I rolled over on my side and closed my eyes, hoping when I wake up this will all be a dream.
