Rhys' POV:'So you're telling me, you think what I'm remembering isn't my own memory? But Canaan's?'
'It makes sense Rhys. Think about it, you and Canaan were at least friends, we know that from that call in your outpost. You could have done what we did, seeing each others memories. That's why its glitchy and you can't remember it properly'
My mind was going crazy with all these theories. I guess it does make sense, but it would also make sense for it to just be a normal memory but with him in it, that would mess it up because of the curse, wouldn't it?
'Listen, according to the map we're two hours away from Moongarde. Let's just get there then we can talk more about it, yeah?'
I nodded, not meeting his eyes. All of this is just too much, but I need to get to the bottom of it. Especially now that this Caeser Theo mentioned could be of interest.
We carried on walking for about an hour until we saw old wooden signs along the road pointing the way to Moongarde. We decided to walk on the main road, scanning to make sure no one crept up on us. It was much better than walking in mud and occasionally getting attacked by low branches.
'Now, once we get there, let me do the talking. I'm good with my words while you're all, well, you know' he pulled a weird face at me and I frowned.
'I'm all what?'
'Well, you're not very approachable, let's say'
I scoffed. 'I don't need to be approachable. We're not there to make friend's. We need to get what we need and leave'
I noticed he had picked up another long stick and was swinging it around. I really am travelling with a bloody child.
'Yes, well it wouldn't hurt to make some acquaintances. Oh look! We're here!'
I took a deep breath as we walked through some rickety looking fences. There were a few building's, most of them quite small which I assumed were the people's homes. There was a larger building situated in the middle of the village with sign that was gently swaying in the wind with 'Moonguarde Inn' painted onto it. The building's were all made of old cobblestone, with thatched roofs. A lot different to the ones back home.
Most of the houses had gardens at the font which a few people were tending to. I could also hear a clanging sound, indicating there is probably a blacksmith here.
The further we walked into the small village, the more people I noticed were beginning to watch us. Theo probably blended in a lot more than I did.
I became conscious of the armour I was wearing, and the large gun at my side.I think Theo noticed as well as I saw his beady little eyes drifting over to me.
'Let's go to the Inn, find a corner, and make a plan'
I nodded and followed his lead. You could tell the Inn was old. The entire building was made out of wood instead of cobblestone that held up the other buildings. Some parts were a lot more rotten and moss filled than others, but it was still standing. It has probably been here since the village was first built.
The door creaked as we stepped in, again bringing attention to ourselves. There weren't too many people in here, considering it was still early morning. There was one man, a fat lump hunched over a table probably still drunk from the night before. My lips curled up in disgust as I looked at him. God, I hate people.
Theo walked over to a young woman who was dusting down some ale glasses with an old rag. I made the decision to stay back near the hearth that was in the far end of the building, which thankfully no one was sat around.
The fire was warm and I was grateful for it. Sitting down, I realised again how exhausted my body felt. It seemed I was still feeling the effects of using so much energy to create the dirt wall. I wanted my mind to switch off for a while so I could simply just sit and relax, but that was definitely impossible.
With so much going on, it was hard to pick what I should worry about first. The odd connection of energy with Theo? The mystery of Canaan, a friend who decided to curse me? The crumpled drawing that I recognised but didn't? The fact we need to travel to far away lands to find someone to may or may not be able to help?
'Rhys,'
I looked up as Theo came and stood next to me before sitting in the chair next to me. He sighed as the fire hit his freckled skin, before speaking up.
'I managed to get us a room we can use for today. There's a small market just down the road in the centre of the village where we can buy supplies. There's also a blacksmith, a Dwarf named Fotrin who we should speak to. I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but that armour needs to go, and the gun'I stilled at that. The armour I could understand, I would just have to settle for something that looked more natural for a traveller, but my gun?
I chose this weapon a few years ago and have had it ever since. I was skilled with it, like it was another arm. The thought of having to get rid of it was a hard decision.Theo noticed my quietness and sighed again.
'I know it's important to you, but it will bring unwanted attention. We can find something else. If you prefer long ranged we can get you a bow of sorts'Gods, a bow. A high technology laser gun that shon a brilliant blue when powered up, laser's shooting at incredible range with incredible speed, compared to a wooden bow. I could throw Theo in the hearth right now.
Getting used to living a life everyone else has outside concrete walls is going to be very hard. It made me wonder how people survived out here without the technology we have, and I began to feel selfish.
It's just one of the many things I will have to get used to.
