"Hey Carlos...I forgot I had something that I wanted to look at. You can go on without me"

Carlos looked confused.

"You know we don't have any authorization to conduct our own investigations right? Nor can we go alone"

Dang. He's right. If im going to have to do this, I have to be very sneaky and discrete. But how?

"Please Carlos. I feel like the events of today were not random nor normal. There has to be something that we're missing and I need to investigate. For the safety of this town."

Carlos didn't seem particularly convinced but he knows that when I set my mind to something, I follow all the way through.

"Fine. But I want you to give me updates every hour ON the hour. If I notice something is up, I won't hesitate to contact Sergeant Gomez"

Didn't really like the terms but what could I do.

"Deal"

"Be safe" he said while hugging me.

"Thank you. I will update you."

And I set off to investigate.

Meanwhile....not too far away. Two figures in long black cloaks were standing upon a hill, observing what was happening.

"I told you the plan would fail. The area was too open."

The other figure looked irritated and annoyed as it punched a tree.

"How was I supposed to know that HE was going to come and Ruin our plan? My plan was carefully constructed and it was a great idea"

The other figure dismissed the other.

"What exactly were you even going for? Now you drew the attention of one of those idiota police officers. It was all over the place and nothing made sense. We now go with MY plan. Is the thing ready?"

The other figure reluctantly nodded.

"Good. Let's start phase 2. We need many people for the task"

Somewhere around the park....

"Is this area usually always foggy and sinister?" I asked myself.
Despite it being around 1PM, there was a heavy fog around the area. So much so that you couldnt really see the sun anymore. The trees looked lifeless as if someone or something has sucked all the energy out of them. I can't lie, it put fear in me.

I've been walking for almost 30 mins now and have not seen a lake in sight. I wondered that with all this fog, whether I have gotten lost.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

That was my timer reminding me to update Carlos. I did not want to tell him that I was lost and slightly scared. That would worry him and also draw the attention of Sergeant Gomez.

"Doing fine.... Haven't found any major clues......May be back soon."

I typed the message into my phone and hit sent.

I put the phone back into my pocket and stopped to observe my surroundings again. I just cannot seem to find the lake with the bench. I was surrounding by only thick fog and lifeless trees, lifeless leaves, etc.

I took a photo of my surroundings just to maybe bring in for clues. I sighed and decided to keep walking until I found a landmark.
There were a weird pile of leaves to my left.
I decided to leave something worthless on this landmark to find my way again. I checked my pockets for something and then I heard a rustle. As if someone was trying to follow me.

I briefly looked around, didn't see anything in particular and decided to keep walking. I then a heard a louder rustle this time and decided to get my gun ready.
Something weird was happening but I didn't know what.

My gun was in my hands and I was ready to pull the trigger on whoever was trying to sneak up on me.

I lowered my arms and my gun and decided to keep walking. Faster this time.

I felt a light breeze and a soft whisper in my ear.

"You are not welcome here"

When I heard that, I immediately stopped in my tracks. Am I hearing things now?

I mustered up some courage and replied:

"Who is out there? Show yourself! "

I quickly looked around and didn't see anything. I was starting to regret coming here. It was very clear that there is a sinister presence in this place.

I've never dealt with ghosts or anything supernatural, hell, I don't even believe in those things. But when I entered this forest, it was very apparent that I had to turn back. My basic bodily instincts were telling me to run the other way.

I got myself together and decided to keep walking. Not even God himself can stop me from solving this crime. As I started to pick up the pace, the rustling became louder and louder. Until I turned around abruptly and saw multiple piles of leaves steadily form into some sort of....demons. As they were forming, it's as if they all said in unison

"You are not welcome here! Get OUT!"

All I could think of in my head in that instance was...

RUN

I bolted towards God knows where. At this point, I wasn't concerned about the crime. I was concerned for my safety. A million thoughts were rushing through my head.

"What the hell is going on?! Why did I agree to do this? I'm in the middle of basically nowhere and there's not even some run down house to take shelter in. Oh my goodness, I'm dead. I'm dead, I'm dead, I'm dead"

It was hard to run as I kept on looking back to see where those demons were and Dios Mio they were fast! I was barely outrunning them. For piles of leaves it seemed as if they were flying!

Because I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, I tripped and fell on a rock.

" Oh my-"

The demons were inching closer towards me and had their arms stretched out and from a closer view, they were absolutely terrifying. Their eyes seemed so soulless. Their mouth and teeth looked similar to a wild rabid animals. I was under the impression that I was being chased by jaguars. I screamed out of pure horror as a couple of them were less than arms reach in front of me. I took out my gun and attempted to shoot them but someone beat me to it.
