FOUR SPENT HOURS ON END in the void, searching for anything to get her out of here. she lost track of the days she had spent in the lab, but being in there made her antsy. she had quickly befriended the guard with shaggy blonde hair, but she never really saw him, since she was never allowed out of her room. sometimes she would hear other children walking down the hallways, talking to papa. she wondered what they looked like.

papa walked in, "hello, four. i have something for you." he extended his arm from behind his back, revealing a small bear. she grabbed it carefully, staring at it. "it can be a friend for you."

"thank... you..." she spoke, sounding out her words. papa exited the room, locking the door behind him. she looked back down at the teddy bear, shutting her hands and searching for a few seconds. the void's empty walls formed into a small shop, full of other toys that she had seen in the rainbow room the last time she was in there. a small woman stood at a counter, counting money.

"one, two, three- can i help you, dear?" the woman looked up from the pennies, staring right at four. she stopped for a second and then opened her mouth to speak, before someone behind her started talking.

"how much is this item?" a woman asked, holding out a toy. four backed up into the counter, looking down. there was no way to escape.
