Maybe she just wanted to be the tulip
The tulip everybody notices for her blossom, and beauty
But she was the ivy
Stretching out her arms in many directions to learn and create
And she always just finds herself being cut back
Because she does not bloom with a big read flower screaming for attention
She wants to create something bigger
Something to be free in, something safe that can also give hope
Like the ivy covered tree house from your childhood where you have always been yourself
She wants to live and not only exist
So let her spread her arms out and give her room to flourish, room to love and room to trust
And then let her take you with her
She will have a story you just have to let her tell it

But don't expect her story to be one of happiness and good ends
She was hurt, she was cut back and she was withering in places nobody has never seen
Cause past people been cutting her, as the past cuts you sometimes
She has scars, scars that she has to outgrow
She might even have some wounds, wounds that are slow to heal
Wounds that are easily opened again
So handle her careful, handle her only the way you would expect someone to handle your wounds
Because they matter, they matter to you even if you don't notice them every day

And if you give her space and trust and the freedom to spread she will give back more to you then you could have ever imagined
Because ivory blossoms too
And she blooms to spread happiness, and comfort, and love
She is like a ivy
And ivy's let ruins shine again
