*TWO DAYS AFTER THE PHONE CALL WITH KURT*

After the excruciatingly long plane ride France Bean, our nanny, and I finally arrive in Rome. We make our way out of the airport undisturbed and all huddle into the limo waiting for us outside.

“Frances are you excited to see daddy?”

Baby Bean smiles and claps her hands; I don’t know whose most looking forward to reuniting with Kurt, her or me, but I guess we’ll be finding out soon enough. The hotel is only a few blocks away from the airport, that’s not much time for me to inform the nanny of her duties.

“Now this isn’t a vacation, Cali. I brought you here to work. I imagine we won’t need you much throughout the rest of today,” I tell her, “but tonight Frances will be under your care.”

“Of course,” she nods, “You and Kurt will need some time alone after the long month you’ve spent apart. I understand.”

I smile to myself and stare out the window. She’s right; we do need some quality time alone… I just wish I hadn’t taken that valium on the plane! I was a little stressed about the flight and thought I could use a some relief and now I’m feeling sluggish and tired. This is just great! I sit up a bit straighter in my seat and try to shake it off.

“Err, are you alright?” Cali asks.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little jet lagged, I guess.”

The limo slows to a stop in front of a gigantic, white building. “This is a hotel? It looks more like a palace to me!” Cali exclaims and I have to agree, the way the whole place is lit up it looks like royalty should live there. It's so beautiful! I grab Frances and we all scurry inside the giant double doors, letting the doorman tend to our luggage.

“Courtney Love Cobain, checking in,” I tell the woman behind the front counter. Hmpf, no sign of Kurt yet. I was hoping he’d be in the lobby awaiting our arrival but knowing him he’s probably lounging around the hotel room in his boxers; some things never change.

“Right, mam!” the worker cheerfully responds, “We’ve been expecting you! And who’s this little doll baby?” Frances, who’s always loved attention, flashes the woman a wide eyed grin. “You’ll be in room 541,” she continues while handing me our room key, “and is this your nanny? It’s been arranged for her to have the suite next to yours.”

I’m only even half listening to the lady at this point. “Yes, uh huh, thank you!” I blow her off and start sprinting toward the elevators. Frances grabs hold on my jacket a little tighter as if she’s afraid the increased speed will send her flying on the floor.

“Courtney? Hey, wait for me!” Cali yells from the desk. I don’t wait, though, her trailing behind couldn’t be lower on my list of concerns right now. My only focus is getting up to our room and having a great reunion with my husband. I make it to the elevator in record time and the doors seem to shut just seconds before Cali can manage to squeeze herself between them. Oh well, I reassure myself, she’s just have to wait for the next one.

“Just a few more minutes, baby,” I tell Frances, “We’re going to see daddy!”
