I woke to the sun in my eyes. I pulled the blankets over my head and groaned. After about ten minutes of procrastinating, I got up to take a shower. I walked down to the kitchen to prepare some breakfast.
After frying some eggs and making coffee, I hear a knock on the door. I open it to find Gracie and we hug. We sit in the kitchen, eating and talking quietly because the living room was right next to us and that was where the boys were sleeping.
I told her what happened last night. She grinned; happy I finally got professional treatment.
"So, Luke didn't tell you it was just a date between you two?" Gracie asked.
"Nope." I paused. "Gracie I can't believe I told him about my dad."
"I'm happy you finally opened up to someone else other than me." She said. "Doesn't it feel better?"
"Yeah." I smiled softly, admitting it. "But I have to tell Calum, Ashton and Michael before they leave. I don't know how I'm going to do that."
"I'll be here when you do." Gracie reassured.
Just then, a few blankets moved and Calum got up from the mattress on the floor. He walked into the kitchen, his hair a mess and sleepiness in his eyes.
He took a step back when he saw us. "Good morning to you." I smiled at him and he smiled back. It was one of the cutest smiles I've seen.
I placed a plate of eggs in front of him and he began to eat. "So did you and Luke have fun last night?" He asked, stuffing his mouth.
"Yeah. It was nice to get out for a while." I said and he nodded his head. I felt a vibration in my pocket and pulled out my phone.
"Cali who is it?" Gracie asked after I stared at my phone for a good five seconds.
"My mom." I said, looking up from my phone. To Calum it didn't mean anything but to Gracie it did. She knew my story and so did Luke. "Excuse me."
I opened the front door and walked out. I had sent my mother an email about a few days ago asking for her number. I wanted to find her. She had sent me an email back replying with her number. This was my shot.
I dialed the number and it rang. It rang three times before a voice spoke. "Hello?"
"Mom?" I choked.
"Calista, sweetie. It's so good to hear your voice again. It's been a while..." She said. Three years to be exact.
"I miss you." Was the only thing I could think of.
"Me too, honey." She sighed. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
I stuttered. How do I bring this up? "Mom, I need to come and see you."
"Why, what's going on Calista?" She asked, worried.
"When you left, things changed. Dad changed. And it's urgent, please mom. Where are you?" I begged.
"Calista it's not that simple. I have another family now." She said and I felt my heart shatter.
"I'm your family too, mom." I snarled. "You can't just abandon me like this. I need you. I need my mother."
"I'm sorry." She sighed heavily, like she was almost crying. "I'm sorry for leaving you but I had to go Calista. I wasn't happy."
"I'm not happy either. You can leave him but you can't leave me." I began to cry.
"I'm in Brisbane, Calista. If you really want to come and see me. I'll text you the address in a bit." She said.
"Thanks Mom. I'll tell you when I'm coming." I said through my tears.
"We can talk about all of this then, alright? Not over the phone." She asked and I agreed. "Hey Cali, just don't bring your father."
"You won't have to worry about that." I said and we bid goodbyes. I stood outside my door, sobbing for a while, not sure why. My mother's text came and I saved it. After a good sob, I wiped my tears and went back inside.
I see everyone awake and in the kitchen, all having breakfast with Gracie. I see Gracie stand up to talk to me but I waved my hand as if to say, later. I walk up the stairs to the bathroom to freshen myself up.
As soon as I did, I see Luke waiting for me outside. "Hey, how did you sleep?" He asked.
"Kind of wish I hadn't woken up." I admitted and he frowned. He was wearing a long sleeved shirt and checkered pants with messy hair and even like this, he looked ridiculously cute.
"Have you been crying?" He asked, leaning in closer to me. I shook my head and looked away. "Cali. I have a plan, to make things better for you. But I need to tell the others before we can promise you something."
"What are you talking about?" I questioned. How could he make things any better?
"I can't promise anything unless I tell the rest of the band. Only then might I be able to help you." He said.
"So, there's a chance you won't be able to help me but in the end I still have to tell my story?" I asked. He nodded and looked down. "Okay. We'll do it now." I said and walked down the stairs.
"Come on guys, Cali has something to share with us." Luke said as we reached the kitchen. Gracie gave me a look and I just nodded.
We moved to the living room and sat down. Gracie sat next to me and held my hand. "You can do this." Luke said on my other side, rubbing my back.
I sighed and started. I told Michael, Calum and Ashton about my father and what he had done to me after I left Luke and the 3 years before that. Their reactions were the same: hurt, shocked and angry. Then I told everyone about what just happened with my mother.
"You found out where she lives? Oh Cali, I'm so happy for you." Gracie hugged me. "We can go see her together."
I smiled at her. The four boys were looking at each other for a while. "I'm so sorry Cali." Michael said and walked over to me to give me a hug.
"You didn't have to tell us, you know." Ashton said, running his fingers through his hair.
"Luke said I should tell you so you might help me?" I asked, turning towards Luke. He got up and beckoned for the rest of them to the kitchen to talk. I watch them talk for the longest time while Gracie mumbled on about how this was a new start for me to which I agreed.
"I'm so happy I'll be able to see you get what you finally deserve, Cali." Gracie said as she squeezed my hand.
The boys came out of the kitchen, grins on their faces. "We have a plan." Calum said.
