Veterinarians Meet Vigilante

CHAPTER 1

Gotham City

Present Day 2023

Venus and Juniper Isley-Quinn were mysteries to most of the occupants of Gotham University. They never stayed on campus except for classes or exams and were never late or too early, one would think they were perfect if not for their last name. The girls' knew of course, that no one is ever perfect. Everyone is far from it in fact. Straight A's and graduating as co-valedictorians made for two very happy future veterinarians, all of the late night study sessions and at home pop quizzes with the moms turned out to be worth it in the end. Now, they were standing in their shared apartment with their moms celebrating the end of the term and their certification exam results. "Thank you moms! This is amazing!" Venus squealed with little claps and hops added in excitement. Harley and Ivy had bought little disco lights and attached them to the ceiling, Ivy had also grown more flowery vines onto the walls by the windows and added the girls' favorite flowers as a special touch. They had invited all of their found family and friends to celebrate the girls' success and also to give them a special gift. Harley had been talking to Selina the other day when Selina mentioned how Damian had found a vixen and her fox pups in the forest behind the manor the other day and had to nurse 2 of the pups back to health since they were both runts and the vixen had started to refuse to feed them. So Harley decided that the two fox pups would be the perfect graduation gift for the two future veterinarians, they were both healthy now and slightly domesticated due to the care, love, and attention of one Damian Wayne. Harley and Ivy had gotten big boxes that they then wrapped like cartoon huge presents, they put each of the kits beds and some toys in the bottom of the boxes before putting each collar bow on them and placing them in the boxes. The music was only slightly loud but everyone was having a great time, even Bruce had shown up so he could see the girls' reactions to the kits. Oswald and Nygma were in the corner talking about a new riddle that was in the Gotham Gazette, Dr. Fries was locked in a conversation with Selina about his new green energy project to power the machine for his wife's condition and Harley and Ivy were bringing the girls to the center of the room where all of the presents were stacked up with the two big boxes in the middle of the room. "Okay girlies, present time!" Harley squealed and ushered the girls to the love seat they had moved while setting up for the party.  As both girls sat down, Selina rushed to get her presents from the top of the pile and push them in front of the girls. "Open open!" Selina clapped for emphasis like an excited child getting a big bag of candy. The two girls' started giggling at their pseudo aunt and unwrapped their presents. Each girl had received a Barnes n' Noble gift cards for $150 each and a stuffed animal with a tracker bracelet. Venus had gotten a dolphin and Juniper had gotten a shark. "Thanks Auntie Sel, this is amazing!" Juniper told Selina while helping Venus latch her bracelet around her left wrist. Venus' dolphin was migrating south at the moment and her name is Emerald. Juniper's shark was in breeding season so was staying in one place for a while, his name is Wren. Both girls were setting up the apps on their phones for their individual animals excitedly and showing their pseudo uncles at the same time. "Okay! Our turn. Ed grab the boxes!" Oswald Cobblepot aka the penguin told his husband Edward Nygma aka the riddler. Nygma slightly rolled his eyes and grabbed both of the boxes off the stack of presents, heading over towards the girls he handed them each a box before going back over to stand with his husband. The girls opened their given boxes and found inside brand new customized stethoscopes with their names engraved in the drum. Venus' came with a cow print cover and a stitch thermometer attached while Juniper's came with a giraffe print and a nightmare before Christmas thermometer that had Jack and Sally on it. "Thank you uncles, this is so appreciated!" They sat for a minute admiring their new stethoscopes before Bruce and their moms started carefully sliding the biggest boxes towards the girls. "Okay girls, please be careful when you open these." Bruce winked at them. The girls shared a slightly confused look before carefully untying the ribbons on the big boxes, they then proceeded to remove the lids off the boxes before gasping in unison. Venus' had her hand over her mouth and both girls had tears in their eyes. "Oh Uncle Bruce, Auntie Sel. They are amazing!" Juniper said to Bruce while staring at her new fox kit sitting on a grey plaid bed with a bow tie collar around his neck. Juniper's fox kit was white base with light to dark brown and tan speckles all around his body, his eyes are a bright blue and his nose had speckles as well. Venus' kit was grey base with black and white speckles all around her body with curious green eyes, she was sitting on a pink bed with a sparkly bow collar on her neck. Picking their kits up both girls were slightly crying while cradling their new babies in their laps, the kits almost immediately relaxed completely and started to fall asleep. The girls started cooing quietly at how cute the kits were being, "Where did you even find them?" Venus asked quietly as if afraid to wake the small baby animals they were cuddling with. "Damian found them actually, their mother had a litter of 6 and those two were being shooed out of her den so Damian took them in and nursed them back to health for a while. Titus and Ace love them but Alfred the cat is not a fan so I figured they would make a great graduation gift for you two. This way Damian can keep track of them too to make him feel a bit better about not keeping them himself." Bruce explained to the girls while Selina snuck a picture of the girls' on the couch with their new kits falling asleep on their laps. The girls were also starting to get tired so Harley and Ivy decided to end the party for the night and let everyone get some much needed rest.

The next morning the girls were woken up by rowdy fox kits and some 80's rock music playing from the kitchen. Smiling to herself Venus pat Trix on her head and rubbed her ears before putting on her slippers and heading to the kitchen for some coffee and breakfast. When she opened her door she was met with the marvelous sight of her sister who had also just woken up and could not yet form proper sentences without caffeine. Smiling at Juniper they both lock arms and head to the kitchen together once they get there Juniper goes to the pantry to get the food for the kits while Venus heads to the coffee pot and grabs two cups. "Good morning girls." Ivy said calmly while watering her herbs that sat in the kitchen window. "Good morning mom." The girls echoed back as they sat at the counter with their steaming cups of coffee, Harley didn't like that the girls drank so much coffee but she understood nonetheless as she was once a medical student and also lived off of coffee and pasta for a while. "Good morning my lovely gems, Bruce and Selina called to wish you congratulations again and to ask if it would be alright for Damian to stop by to see the kits." Harley told the girls while continuing to make the french toast she planned for breakfast, knowing that the girls didn't have any plans so far for today it was probably inevitable that Damian would be stopping by today. "Yea mama that's fine, I don't have any plans and I wanted to go get Copper some toys and maybe a t-shirt." Juniper told Harley while Venus' nodded in agreement. They didn't have any plans at all, so maybe they could take Damian and the kits to the pet store and possibly the park. "I'll text Dami and tell him to bring Titus. Maybe we can take the kits to the park after shopping?" Venus looked to Juniper for confirmation, after a minute of thinking Juniper nodded her agreement and both girls' headed to their rooms to get ready. After getting dressed and grabbing the leashes for the kits the girls headed out of the apartment to wait for Damian and Titus to arrive, assuming Alfred was driving them over, it wouldn't be a very long wait. Soon enough Alfred pulled the car to the curb to allow Damian and Titus to get out, smiling at Damian and petting Titus for a bit the girls' excitedly chatted about what color schemes they wanted for each kit on their way to the pet supply store. Once they arrived it was decided, dramatically, that they would divide and concur. Damian wanted to also get Titus a new collar and some toys so they all decided that they would meet at the check out in an hour before heading to the park. Venus ended up finding a really cute pink t-shirt that was ACDC themed for Trix and Juniper found a matching one in black for Copper. They grabbed chew toys and stuffed toys not knowing which the kits would like better, along with those they also grabbed some different flavored treats for training. Finding everything they needed they headed to checkout to wait for Damian, once there they found they actually didn't need to wait for him as he was already waiting for them at the checkout also finding everything he wanted. They each paid for their things before heading out of the store and over to Robinson park where they let Titus off his leash and gave the kits a few of their new toys as well as letting them off leash. "They are doing well I assume?" Damian asked the girls' while watching the kits play with their toys and Titus running around them to burn off some of his energy. "They are amazing Dami, thank you for letting Bruce give them to us. We really do appreciate it and we love them." Juniper told Damian to ease his anxieties. Realistically, Damian knew that the kits were in the best hands of all of Gotham since the girls' know what they are doing when it comes to animals since that is what they plan to do for the rest of their lives. But sometimes his anxiety, that he thinks he hides well, gets the best of him. Especially when it comes to his love for animals and his family. "That sounds adequate, thank you." He responded, as they all continued to watch the animals play and run around for a few more hours before heading home for the rest of the day.
