CHAPTER 8

Same Time

No noise. Nothing was happening. Venus had her eyes closed and couldn't hear anything going on. There just seemed to be nothing. And then, as if someone had turned the power back on, everything happened at once. A purple mist surrounded Venus as the objects she was strapped to began to float and move. And then, she felt it. The freedom and the emptiness all at once, she felt as if she could feel everything and was seeing the world for the first time through a different perspective. Suddenly she had all of the power and time in the world to get herself and her sister free of these machines, using this new power she acquired she unlatched everything before doing the same for Juniper's holds. She was still unconscious which was super worrying to Venus, but at the moment all they needed was to get out of there. "No! You can't do this! I want my money's worth for you bitches and I will get it!" She continued to hear the Joker complain and moan about how the girls' were costing him and they were supposed to be his money makers. Deciding she had had enough of this bullshit, Venus raises her hand and snaps his neck. She would probably grow to feel remorse after the fact, once she is off the adrenaline high and anxiety of this high stress situation and realizes what she had just done. Walking out of the building with her sister floating behind her, she is met with Batman and Robin staring at her in various tones of worry and shock. "Venus? What happened?" Batman asked her, as he grabs Juniper from her magic ? she wasn't exactly sure what to call what had just happened but she was just happy that they were both alive. "I- I think I did something bad? I can't-" Venus didn't get to finish her sentence before her adrenaline crashed and she passed out.

12 hours later and both girls were still unconscious down in the med bay of the bat cave. None of the vigilantes had any idea what had happened or why they couldn't get the girls to wake up, or back up in Venus' case. Dick hadn't stopped pacing since the moment Bruce and Damian got back to the cave with Venus and Juniper. He was completely wracked with worry along with a small amount of guilt, maybe if he had gone back to the bakery and picked Juniper up for their coffee date instead of agreeing to meet her at the cafe things would've gone differently. No one could say for sure, since both girls had been around members of the Wayne family all day and both girls were still taken. "Stop worrying Dick Grayson. I'm fine." Juniper said, but when he turned around to see if she was awake she was still asleep. How could she be talking to him right now if she is totally unconscious on one of the med bay cots? "Well, I'm assuming this is my meta ability. That's why we were taken, he unlocked our meta gene to sell us later. Presumably to a black market meta auction where we would be bid on and sold." Well shit. That explains a lot actually, like how Venus was able to kill the joker without ever touching him then later how she carried Juniper out of the building before promptly passing out. Calming his breathing, Dick walked over to Junipers cot and grabbed her hand after sitting next to her. He still felt guilt in some way over the whole situation, not knowing when something like this happens is one thing. But knowing about it and it happening to someone you love is a completely different ball park. "Love? You love me?" Juniper said in his head again. He hadn't even realized what he was admitting to himself, getting used to Juniper in his head is going to take some time. But, yes, he does love her. Has since he met her as Nightwing in all honesty, there was just something about her that attached itself to his soul and won't let go. If he was being honest with himself, he wasn't exactly upset about the prospect of having Juniper in his mind and soul. In fact, it actually made him feel better about his future, especially his future love life. "I love you too Dick. Thank you for being honest, even if you weren't totally aware I was still in your head." As soon as she had ended her sentence, Dick felt her squeeze his hand. He gasped as he look up at her head and watched as she very slowly opened her gorgeous brown eyes and breathed deeply. "Hey cutie, come here often?" Juniper asked, before coughing slightly since her throat was still sore from not being used. Dick laughed before getting up and grabbing a water bottle for her. Handing her said water bottle, he made his way back to his original seat and reached for her hand once again. "How are you feeling June? Does anything hurt?" He asked her, while also running his thumb against her knuckles in a calming pattern. She looked at him curiously, her eyes slight glowing blue, before setting her water bottle down and sighing. "Nothing hurts at the moment, I can feel everyone else's emotions and thoughts. It's very overwhelming if I'm being honest." She told him, while following his hands over hers. "We will figure it out, I promise. Bruce called Harley and Ivy earlier to let them know we found you and they should be here by now. I think Alfred was trying to get you guys some quiet time before being bombarded with questions and love. I refused to leave you completely alone, even if Venus is down here too." He told her quietly, looking over at the other cot in the room where Venus was still asleep with Jason in the chair next to her. Tilting her head slightly, Juniper begins to enter Jason's mind subconsciously. Feeling all of his worry, guilt, and anger made her mind swirl. She could now see for herself how loved her sister is, they made need more time to come to conclusions than her and Dick, but the love is there and reciprocated. "He really loves her. So much more than I think even he himself knows." She tells Dick, equally as quiet in her whisperings. "Do you think she knows?" Dick asks her, hoping that his little brother's heart is in safe hands. Juniper turned her tilted gaze to her sister, and all she felt was safety. Venus' subconscious knows that Jason is with her and in return she feels completely safe, this is the love that Venus' has always dreamed of having. All of her books and rantings on said books, have finally paid off. "She knows." Tilting her head back to Dick she gave him a small smile before adjusting herself to lay on her side with his hand still safely tucked into hers. "Get some more rest, I'll be here when you wake up again." Dick told her, as she slowly drifted back into her dreamland.
