"YOU!" THE GREEN EYED GIRL SAID.

"Me?" Jaydar croaked. He could hardly breathe with her foot on his throat.

She took her foot off him and quickly ran to the door which she quietly shut. She turned back to Jaydar who sat up rubbing his neck.

"You're the Latainian?" she said, accusingly.

Jaydar laughed and pointed to his hair. "You don't say."

She paced back and forth twirling the knife in her hand. "You have to get out of here."

"Who are you?" Jaydar said. "And why do you have green eyes?"

She ignored him. "Didn't you hear me? You have to go now!"

Jaydar stared at her in confusion for a moment. "Why would you want to help me? You're an Erif."

She smiled slightly. "Let's just call it a favour I owe."

"What?" Jaydar still had no idea what was going on.

"Why are you here?" she asked him.

"I was being interrogated."

"By who?"

"An Erif."

"That really helps."

"He had dreadlocks."

"Zarc," she mumbled.

"You know him?"

"He'll be back soon," she said, ignoring Jaydar's question.

Jaydar gave up. He was going to get nothing out of this girl.

"Here." She handed Jaydar her knife.

Jaydar stared at it suspiciously. "Does it explode or something?"

"No, just take it! You're going to need it," she said.

Jaydar carefully took it.

"Now I need you to hit me." The girl tapped the side of her head. "Here. Hard."

Jaydar looked at her as if she had gone barking mad. "What?! What kind of brute do you think I am? I don't hit women."

"I meant no insult, you don't look the violent type," she said. "But you need to knock me out and drag me over to the table. It'll look like we fought, I tripped, hit my head on the table and blacked out. You of course escaped. Otherwise how am I going to explain you getting out with me here?"

Jaydar nodded. "All right."

"And say hi to your brother for me."

Jaydar half closed his eyes and grimaced as he swung the hilt of the knife at the girl's head. It hit her hard and she slumped. Jaydar quickly caught her before she could hit the floor. He carefully carried her over to the table and laid her down. He looked at her for a moment trying to determine why she was helping him. He was puzzled by her last comment. He shrugged. He wasn't getting any closer to freedom by standing around. He turned and headed for the door.

At last he just might have a chance at escape. A small one but a chance none the less.

Aurora watched as the others disappeared down the end of the corridor, round a corner and out of sight. She took a deep breath. She was on her own now. She couldn't believe she was doing this. It went against all her survival instincts. She shook away the thought, she had to focus. The sooner she found Jaydar the faster they could get out of here.
