"Do you think it's really a villain we're looking for?" Kaminari spoke up from where he was walking with Bakugou and Iida. Todoroki and Midoriya glanced back at him from where they were walking slightly ahead.
"It is strange," Todoroki said, "A sudden string of deaths attributed to heart attacks or unexplained suffocation, but the fact that they all occurred in a small area is the reason it probably isn't natural. Not to mention the suffocation victims didn't actually suffocate on anything."
"You'd have to be an idiot to suffocate on nothing!" Bakugou said.
"Please restrain yourself when speaking about the dead!" Iida reprimanded immediately. Bakugou scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"If it is a quirk, what could it be? Maybe some sort of brainwashing where they control the person to stop them from breathing? But that doesn't explain the deaths by heart attack... unless they aren't the same cause? Maybe it's more than one person? Maybe the heart attacks are unrelated coincidences? But if it is a quirk, how would we fight against it... Especially if we don't know the conditions..." Midoriya broke off as Todoroki poked him sharply on the shoulder.
"You're doing it again, Midoriya."
"Sorry," Midoriya lapsed into silence as they continued to walk together, no one speaking for a long moment.
They were walking through a neighborhood on the edge of town nearing the beach. They were the only people around, and apart from Kaminari making the occasional joke and Bakugou firing back insults, it was quiet.
Suddenly there was a scream and all five of them turned their attention to the street it had come from. They began to run.
A boy of maybe twelve ran from the street and did a double take when he saw them running toward him.
"P-please!" He yelled. "You're heroes right? I've seen you before... Someone's chasing me..." He pointed shakily down the street he had run from. They looked to see a figure quickly dart into the shadows of one of the buildings.
"Run, and call someone. We'll help you." Todoroki said calmly.
"This is stupid. Just a kid getting stalked? That's not a villain. I want to go all out!" Bakugou grumbled.
"Kacchan! Be nice. We don't know it isn't a villain!" Midoriya said, and after ensuring that the kid had made his escape, they all began to run down the street. The figure in front of them continued running, but Midoriya couldn't help but feel like something was wrong. The way they were moving, it almost looked like they wanted to be caught...
"Keep your guard up," Todoroki said, seeming to notice the same thing Midoriya had. The figure they were following ducked into the shadows near the end of the street and the five pursuers ran faster. Iida, unsurprisingly was the first to arrive. They formed a half circle around the figure and realized it was a young woman, only a few years older than they were.
"Ah, UA students!" The woman grinned at them showing too many teeth. Her eyes roamed over all of them before settling on Midoriya, who was standing on one end of the semicircle next to Bakugou. "I was wondering when you heroes would come try to stop me."
"Why were you following that innocent child?" Iida questioned.
"Oh, that boy was just for fun. I wasn't actually going to hurt him. He's too young. On the other hand..." She stepped forward quickly and stroked her hand across Midoriya's cheek before he could react. He quickly stepped back and the woman moved back to her original position but with an even wider smile.
"What did you do?" Bakugou growled, a small explosion flashing from his hand as he clenched his fists.
"Nothing, yet." The woman said ominously.
"Are you the one killing all those people?" Kaminari asked, narrowing his eyes.
"All which people?" She asked innocently.
"They died from heart attacks or suffocation with no indication of being smothered, and being otherwise healthy." Todoroki said. The fact that she had touched Midoriya bothered him. Even though it seemed she had done nothing he didn't trust that one bit.
"Oh, them." The woman waved her hand dismissively.
"How?" Bakugou growled.
"Would you like a demonstration?" Her wide grin was back again.
"Explain yourself!" Iida demanded.
"Easy." The woman clenched one of her opened hands into a fist. "I can stop any muscle of any person I touch from working the way it should. If I hold my hand like this, it paralyzes that muscle. Fun isn't it?"
They all stared at her in stunned silence for a long moment, then turned to Midoriya. His face was distressed, his mouth slightly open and he stumbled into Bakugou. Bakugou caught him with a mutter of "don't fall on me, damn nerd" before turning back to the woman. With his arm wrapped around Midoriya's back, his hand on his side, he could tell. His heart quickened.
"He's not breathing." Ever observant Todoroki voiced the same thought Bakugou had just had. Midoriya nodded weakly, one hand holding his lower ribs as he continued trying to pull air in through his mouth but to no avail.
"That explains the suffocation, but the others..." Kaminari looked between the woman and Midoriya. He knew Midoriya was steadily running out of air. Midoriya's lips were turning a concerning shade of purple as his eyes became more glazed, his expression more pained.
"I'm so excited I was able to run into you heroes, but I am afraid I have no intention of being caught. It was a pleasure to meet you, but I really must be going. To answer your unfinished question, Chargebolt, the heart is also a muscle." She clenched her other hand tightly. To their horror, Midoriya's eyes widened and his other hand grasped at the left side of his chest before his eyes fell shut and his body went completely limp in Bakugou's arms.
The last thing he heard was his friends' shouts of his name before everything went black.
