Chapter 1

Amari's POV**

    I am in the lab doing some research on the plant life of Pandora. I've been doing this for a couple hours waiting for my aunt to get out of her pod. I didn't get into my avatar today because I wanted to do research today and my aunt said that we won't do that much exploring today we will be going out into the forest of pandora tommorow with the two new avatar drivers. I'm really excided because I haven't been far from the gates before. I get interupeded from my thoughts when I hear a familer voice say there famous phrase when she gets out of her pod " who's got my godd@nm cigarette!...Guys whats wrong with this picture!" Aunt Grace said. I smiled while I saw one of the tech people run to her with her cigarette and lab coat. I see movement from the cornor of my eye and I turn to see Max and two other guys walking around the lab. One of the guys was tall and was wearing a red shirt and a green vest over the shirt and he was wearing tan khaki pants he also had short brown hair. The next guy was in a wheelchair, he wore a gray shirt with some type of design on it with gray pants and his hair was shaved. " Are they the new avatar drivers?" I thought I looked over to Max while he was turning his head towards me. I smiled and while Max started walking over but stopped and told the two quys to follow him.
   Max smiled when he got to me "Hey Amari" he said "hey Max how are you?" I said while I picked up the papers I was reading from the research I was doing before. "Im doing great thank you. I would like for you to meet the new avatar drivers." Max said I turned to the two men and smiled and waved a little " Hey guys im Amari Augustine nice to meet you!" I said the tall guy came up and shook my hand before introducing himself " Hi im Norm Spellman im and anthropologist and avatar driver" Norm said I smiled and turned to the next guy who already was holding out his hand for me to shake " Im Jake Sully I was a marine. im taking my brothers spot as an avatar driver... I guess" Jake said. I smiled and said " Nice to meet you two im happy you guys are here and I welcome you to Pandora" I said. Max smiled and turned to Norm and Jake " Amari here is Grace Augustine's niece" Max said Norm turns to me in suprise while Jake looks confuse " Wow really?" Norm said I chuckled " Yes Aunt Grace took me in when I was 10 but I didn't get here on Pandora till I was 15" I said. Max then said " She doesn't like talking about why she was put in Grace's care, so please don't ask about it she will tell you when she is ready."   I smile appreciatively at him because Max is right I don't like talking about it. " Ok I'll take you to go see my aunt she is wanting to meet the new avatar drivers. so please follow me" I said with a smile.
    We were walking the halls to get to lab that the pods are in. It's not far, like two doors down. I only heard my aunt when she got out her pod is because she yelled. I came out of my thoughts when I hear Norm talk to Jake " Grace Augustine is a legend. She's the head of the Avatar program, and she wrote I mean wrote the book on Pandora botany!" Norm said " thats because she likes plants more than people" I said " Except you Amari your her niece she loves you more than anything" Max said I chuckled and turned towards Max and pointed at him with my index finger " That is true so true" I said. We turned into the pod lab and Max walks in front of me and I see my aunt sitting on her pod smoking probably her second cigarrete. Max looks back at me " Speaking of Grace" Max said I roll my eyes smiling and shaking my head. " And here she is cinderella back from the ball. Grace I'd like you to meet Norm Spellman and Ja--" Max said but was interupted by my Aunt " Norm I hear good things from from you how's your Na'vi?" my aunt said before Norm could say anything I had walked over to Aunt Grace. She wrapped her arm around me in a side hug while looking at Norm when he talks in na'vi. " May the all mother smile at our first meeting" Norm said I turned my head to see my aunt nod her head and take a drag of her cigarrete while she squeezed my shoulder " Not bad a little formal though" Aunt Grace said I hear Norm say with a chuckle " there is still  much to learn"  While they were talking I looked over at Jake to see him looking around the lab. Finally Max speaks. " Uh Grace, this is Jake S---" he said but was interupted again." Yeah yeah I know who you are, and I don't need you. I need your brother." she turned to Max. " You know the PhD who trained three years for this mission" Aunt Grace said. " He's dead. I know it's a big inconvenience for everyone." Jake said I raised my eyebrows in shock but it wasn't noticeable. " How much lab training have you had?" Aunt Grace asked. " I dissected a frog once." Jack said. Aunt Grace let go of me and looked at Max " You see? They're p!ssing on us without even the courtesy of calling it rain" Aunt Grace said while turning away. " Im going to selfridge." She said already walking away. " Grace, that's not a good idea" Max said but it was to late my aunt was already out the door I looked over at Jake and gave him and apologetic look. Max turned to Jake " Here, tomorrow, oh eight hundred. Try to use big words." Max said to him he then turned to me " Amari can you please show these two to there rooms?" Max asked " Yeah I'll show them." I said. Max turned and left the lab. I turned to Jake " Hey im sorry about my aunt, she doesn't like when selfridge gets into her department." I said Jake shrugs " Im also sorry to hear about your brother." I said " Don't worry about it"Jake said I gave a small smile and then clapped my hands together " Ok follow me and I'll will show you your rooms." I said while turning to walk out of the lab.
     We get to the hall that has the rooms for the people in the avatar program. " Ok so your rooms are close to the end" I said as we get to Norm's room that is on the left of the hall, " Ok Norm your room here on the left and Jake your room is across from his on the right. If you guys need anything and don't want to bother Grace my room is right beside Jake's" I said while pointing to each room. " Thank you Amari, It was nice meeting you but im going to go unpack, Have a good evening" Norm said. I smiled " Ok you have a good evening as well Norm." I said while Jake nods. Norm goes into his room while I turned to Jake. " I hope you like it here and again I am sorry about my aunt." I told him Jake chuckles " No worries about Grace and thank you." He said turning to his room and opens the door. " Have a good evening Amari." He said while giving me a nod. I smiled and gave him a nod " Have a good evening Jake." I said.
