A knock made me jump off of the sofa. I ran to the door and opened it, "Hi, Y/N, you're early!" I exclaimed, smiling at him. "Yeah, what- whatever Kyle, let's just hang out I guess." He replied, walking past me and into my house. He jumped up onto the couch and sighed. "Got any cards?" He asked as I closed the door. I walked up to him and thought, 'where would cards be?'
"Maybe, lemme check." A simple nod came my way and I went off to the shelf to investigate. Shuffling through some old papers though, I did end up finding a stack of cards held together by a browning rubber band. Smiling, I snatched them and brought them to the couch. "I found these, but they look pretty old. Is that okay?" I asked.
" 's fine, come on, let's play something." Y/N turned on the TV and sat on the floor. I did too, removing the rubber band from the deck and shuffling the cards. An annoying advertisement was airing on the television, making me roll my eyes. "How about...war?" I looked back to Y/N and shook my head yes. "That's cool, let's do it!"
The cards were split and we began. I was immediately losing. "Are you cheating? This is ridiculous!" We slammed our next card down and there it was, finally, a win. "Let's go!" I yelled, gaining some confidence in the matter.
"You know this is practically gambling, right?" Y/N asked me, probably not wanting an answer. "Right, right, it's all about fate..." I whispered to myself.
"Y'know something? I've been having an...issue lately Kyle, and I was wondering your opinion on it." I was surprised, what did Y/N need help with that he needed me? I shuddered, an unknown breeze entering the room. Weren't the windows closed? I thought they were...
"Remember yesterday? My first day literally, here?" His tone seemed serious now. It kinda made me nervous. But we insisted to keep playing as usual. "Yeah, I remember, we hanged out after school and played basketball, Kenny ended up-"
"Kenny ended up fucking dying, Kyle. What do you think about that?" No, Kenny didn't die, this guys on something if he thinks Kenny would end up flat on his back just like that. I frowned and spoke, "no- that's not... Kenny left early because he kept losing!" I defended myself, hoping I could get through Y/N's thick skull.
"The only thing that was lost was any respect I had for you and your friends, Kyle." Y/N stood up and began to pace. I backed up from the game, worrying for Y/N's sake. He looked like he was on edge, especially sputtering nonsense like he is. "Look, I can- I can help you wi-"
"With what?! Why don't you help Kenny? What's up with that? You fucking- you're sick!" Y/N shouted, spitting his words with flames seemingly circling his pupils like the ferocious waves of the ocean. He balled his fists and shook them around my face in anger. "What about Kenny?! What could you do to help Kenny, huh? What!"
Y/N had me backed against the wall beside my kitchen entranceway, my body rubbing against the eroding paint as I shook in fear. "L-look I-"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP! Just SHUT UP!" He held his head and screamed, flames wrapping around us in seconds. It was beautiful, impossible, and frightening. My breathing was heavy and shaken.
The flames left as soon as they showed, leaving me to meet my unfocused eyes with his. Y/N's face wasn't mad or upset anymore, now more afraid than ever. He gave the ground a confused look before rushing out of my house, tumbling about to grab his things and slam the door behind him.
I slowed my breathing and fell to the floor surrounded by a circle of black, charred carpet, the only thing in my ears was the now distant Terrance and Phillip episode airing on the screen.
What the fuck just happened?
