"Y/n's here" I heard Mrs.Wheeler shoutout from where we stood at the front door. The door stayed wide as Mrs.Wheeler stood there waiting for her daughter to come down the stairs. "So, you guys are gonna work on some school stuff?" Mrs.Wheeler asked. Her hair is pulled up into a high ponytail. My backpack is slung around only one of my shoulders and the weight is pulling down my shoulders. "Just working on some projects, Mrs.Wheeler," I say wanting this uncomfortable conversation to end before it can even start.
"Well, you know what the kids say nowadays..." Mrs.Wheeler says, but her sentence is cut short when Nancy comes running down the stairs. "Alright Mom, thanks for whatever you were doing. The two of us are gonna go upstairs now." Nancy said pulling me into the house by my wrist and dragging me up the stairs.
She shuts her door after nearly throwing me into the room. "Shit, Nancy. What's with all the throwing and dragging me around for?" I ask trying to catch my breath as I drop my bookbag onto her floor.
She giggles but turns around with a smile on her face. "Just didn't want my mom being weird like she always is," Nancy commented, before reaching into her own bookbag and grabbing any school book material she could.
She pulled out the many textbooks and all other sorts of pages and books that were stuffed into her bag. Laying them all out on her bed, I stood by her bed with my own books in my hands. I didn't want to invade her space, so I moved to sit on her window bench. It had a few throw pillows from her bed and a throw blanket on it.
I had watched her in class, and let's be honest with each other. I knew that Nancy was ten times smarter than me, and so with us being friends, I had if she would tutor me. Just to help me get a little further in the class not like I was falling behind or anything, but I sure could be doing better. I asked, and of course, Nancy was more than willing to help.
I remember asking her in lunch. She was sitting down with Robin swirling food around in her Tupperware container. "Hey, Nancy do you think that you can help me study for our upcoming science test? I'm just not understanding the topic." I said, exposing myself to be rejected but there was a happy lopsided smile on her face along with Robins. Almost like Robin had just known that I was going to ask. "Sure of course I can help ya, Y/n." She said with a wink and I walked around with a happy smile on my face, and as I walked away I heard Robin say.
"I told you if you didn't make a move she was gonna do it sooner or later. You can't just be walkin' around and teasing the shit out of her without her noticing." Robin said, but I didn't hear anything that Nancy said. So, I waited until the day I drove down to Nancy's house.
I was still standing caught up in my thoughts and my head. "Y/n? Are you alright?" She asked. I shook my head leaving my trance, "Yeah I'm fine. I just.." I went to sit down on the window bench. "Hey, wait don't you want to sit down next to me?" Nancy asked, patting the bedside. I mumbled a small "yeah" I could feel the blush cross against my face and kept my face looking downwards as I made my way towards her bedside. "Just take off your shoes, sweetheart," Nancy said. I shuttered at her words and stubbed my shoes off with my toes.
My socks slid a bit down as I climbed up onto her soft and cozy bed. "Are you comfortable?" Nancy asked, she was looking at me with such contentment in her eyes. I shook my head, not really knowing what to say. I could hear her younger brother from the other side of the door. "Is he always that loud?" I asked, not even answering her question. She scoffed and rolled her eyes before getting up and opening her bedroom door screaming in the large house for her brother Mike to shut up.
When she turned around she asked the same question again. "Yeah, your room is pretty." I commented like a fucking idiot. I was so stupid, she probably didn't care that I noticed how pretty her room was. "Oh well thank you. I decorated myself." Nancy said proudly, as she came back to her bed.
